Justin Fields QB - Ohio State

If the Niners can get one of the big 4 QBs in this draft at 12 they need to pull the trigger. If they have 1 targeted in particular they need to move up into the top 10 to get their guy, especially if he falls past the 6-7 pick

I think he's a candidate to sit behind Jimmy at least a while, but think we'd have a stud after that.

I'd even trade up a few spots for him if he started to slide. I just don't see him getting through that quarterback needy duo of Carolina and Denver. Detroit could be a target point for a trade imo

A small trade up would suit, but I don't want to send the farm. I want to keep Jimmy and have them compete, being forced to start a rookie doesn't sit well.
is he still any good?
Big boy throw

Listen to a podcast this AM with john middlekauff and he's move up for Fields, they said Kyle has been working with him since 2017 at a friends QB camp as well.

Not a Shanahan type QB but if he fell to the 9ers I would pray the 9ers trip someone on their way to the podium to hand in that card!!!
Despite his numbers and Ohio States performance, I think he played ok. A couple of overthrows and some early jitters, but I wonder if his new rib protector and lingering injury had anything to do with it.

I was more shocked at Ohio States route combinations to be honest. There were a handful of route combos that had me shaking my head.. there was an early 3rd and 5 where OSU ran verticals against an Alabama cover 3 / blitz. It made no sense to me to run 4 verts on a 3rd and short.

Ryan Day didnt do him any favors.

Explain why he isn't a "shanahan type of QB"

I thought he did about as well as he could given his rib injury, how poorly that OL played, and none of his WRs could really separate. I agree the play calling was a little

If Urban takes the Jags job he will draft Fields

Urban is many things but he's not dumb. Fields never even played a snap under him.

Even if he did coach Fields that doesn't mean he would take familiarity over the better QB prospect.

That kinda take is reminiscent of many pegging Taylor Mays to the Seahawks in 2010 because of Pete Carroll. The Hawks instead drafted Earl Thomas and the rest is history.
