I just don't see the Jets passing on this guy no matter how much media hates him or hypes other guys. They have a new coaching staff, two first rounders and a bunch of cap space. They can keep Darnold as a backup or as trade bait for QB needy teams. With the money they can bring one of many WR who will be on the FA market. They already have a great LT and they can use their money and cap to bring more help there. Surround their rookie QB with all the talent possible to succeed. Besides they have Lafleur who will copycat Shanahan offense.
Of course Saleh will want to have an stud pass rushing unit as he had here in 2019. But there are no Nick Bosa or Chase Young prospects worth of a top 10 pick this year. But they could try and steal Ronald Blair who Saleh loves.

I've just got Michigan and Northwestern to go which I hope to watch in full, but so far I see an exceptional college QB, with a slightly iffy pro projection.
The throws are all there, but I'm not sure the nuance is. Behind Wilson for me.
Great athlete, which I think is going to be a problem, a team (probably a bad team) is going to start him because they can win with his legs, will it stunt his development as a passer though?
I'd want him to sit for a year.

No NFL team drafts him thinking he will win them games with his legs.

Well he's also got everything you need in a thrower, but for me nowhere near everything that makes you an NFL QB.
I think he'll get there, but doubt it's early on.

I have a gut feeling that Trey Lance will move up to QB prospect #3 and Fields slides to QB 4. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if he's there at 12. If so, do you draft him?

Hell yes. I don't think that happens though.

I'm a fan of Trey Lance, too, but you just cannot rank him ahead of Fields. I love Trey Lance's footwork and he may be a better runner than Fields, but at this stage Fields does everything else better. What we don't know about Lance is how he would play down, without the play action game, having to drop back play after play. Fields is still a little green in this area, but he's much more tested. Lance just hasn't been put in this precarious spot much, so we have no idea how he'd respond. Love the tools, though.

Lance has the benefit of being the guy that no one has seen play. Fields has a better kit, imo, but he has played against top competition and as a result, has had a bad game here and there... two actually, in a year and a half as a starter... and both were games that were won.
Personally, I love Fields. Physically, he has everything you want... hes proven his toughness... mentally he checks the boxes. He need consistency and fine tuning, but I think he could be phenomenal.

NO doubt that he's very talented... I wish he would have stayed another year, but oh well.. what I'm afraid of is when he sees those MILLIONS in front of him... will that lead to a swollen head and thinks that he's all world already .... man, exactly what happened to JaMarcus and Haskins and that guy name LEAF !!

Is there anything in his background or scouting report that makes him a particular risk for this? More than any of the other potential 1st round QBs?

I've finished my Fields eval, watched Clemson & Bama in full others on cut ups.
If he puts 7 Clemson's out there he goes #1, almost perfect game, went through progressions, threw on time with accuracy, touch and power. Half of it banged up with a rib injury.
He's every bit the thrower that Lawrence is, but has a lot to prove to NFL teams regarding his pocket presence, awareness and anticipation.
Mix Fields and Mac Jones and it might be the best prospect ever!
I almost wish he couldn't run, gets him into trouble as much as it gets him out of it, and you his frame will lead to injuries unless he learns to protect himself. That said he'd still be the 3rd biggest running threat QB in the league.
I have him as #3 behind QB behind Lawrence and Wilson.
Ahead of Lance purely due to sample size and higher likelihood of reaching his ceiling.
My final thoughts are whether or not I'd want to trade up for him. I'm going yes but with a caveat, I wouldn't send a future 1st. If I can get it done with 2's & 3's I'm in.

I don't think he fits what Kyle wants from his QB. Jimmy may get ragged for his deep ball, but he normally gets it out of his hands pretty quickly. Fields ain't like that, he hangs onto to the ball to long.
Also, I see some schools who develop great college QBs, but poor pro QBs. Ohio State is one of them. Wouldn't be surprised to see him become like Haskin's.
I don't see the niners drafting a QB at all. At this time of year, people are always looking for the glitz.

I agree at this stage, I do think he could get there though, the dream is that we coach him up and he gives dimensions never before seen in Kyle's offense.
I doubt we'd get to sit him either, which would hurt his development.
