I'd say he's much like Jimmy from that negative aspect BUT everything else is a massive upgrade. Plus he's 21 not 29. He's just scratching the surface with 2 yrs of play under his belt.

I would hope that the Niners could have a trade lined up in case ha slides back. I think they could realistically move up to 6-9 without giving up too much. You never know where these guys are going to get drafted. It's going to come down to whether they like door number one, two or three. Fields is accurate enough to play in Kyle's system and he certainly has the athleticism. But Wilson or Lance would also work well.

Yeah if they can get ahead of the Panthers, I think they could toss 2 2nds like the Bills did for Allen.

That would be a home run move IMO, I might have to move Fields back to QB2, he's the best thrower of the class (yes including Trevor).

I've dinged him for holding the ball, and not throwing with anticipation, but I remember that you shouldn't be punished for the limitations of your scheme/coaching.

Fields is like Lance for me, sit him down and see how much information he can retain and judge his ability to take coaching. The potential is off the charts, back yourself as a coaching staff to get it out of him.

Yeah Fields is my QB#2 I love Wilson in this offense BUT fields has all the tools you want for a QB in 2021. I agree I think he needs to see the field a little better & having a season to sit would be ideal.

Restructure Jimmy, move up for Fields, and go get depth at CB/OL/EDGE/WR with the rest of those day 3 picks.
What is the weakness?

If there is something you can't teach besides arm talent, it's anticipation and vision (regarding anticipation, when your WRs run option routs it's hard to anticipate). Fields doesn't seem to lack in vision, and it seems his scheme has option routes. On deep passes he has great anticipation. Worst case, he's better than Garoppolo at the combination of the two (because Jimmy will throw picks by anticipating and not seeing a defender).

JTO had a film clip of him throwing with amazing anticipation at times, which tells me it's scheme.

So we have a guy with elite arm strength, who knows where to go with the football, who can move, who has excellent accuracy and timing, and who has outstanding toughness and character.

His fatal flaw? Being an Ohio State QB.

If he's a realistic trade up, this is a no brainer. There's no guarantee he'll be great, but I'd bet my car he'll be better than Jimmy currently is.

People said the same s**t with Watson coming out Clemson. Poor vision, deep balls sail, horrible at reading defenses doesn't go through progressions and had a massive amount of TOs etc etc.

There's a couple throws I think Fields would like without question, he has had issues with fields vision (like Watson did at times too), but that isn't that big of an issue. He's a 21 yr old kid....if you can't develop him with the tools he has, then you shouldn't be in the NFL imo.

I agree one of his flaw is he's a OSU QB...Which was another flaw of Watsons lol.

fields IMO has gotten over analyzed while Wilson/Lawrence haven't. Love me some Wilson, but fields has all the tools to be a stud.

You sure? Jimmy "currently" — as in the last season — has been quite below average, and missed most of the season. Not a particularly high bar.

You'll note by my QB grading parameters, being carried by an elite defense and running game doesn't make a QB good. Winning is a TEAM statistic. Colin Kaepernick "just won" too, until the talent around him eroded to average, and then suddenly he was garbage. Every starter quality QB has one or two great games a year. Kap did too.

Jimmy. Is not. Good. He is the beneficiary of being starter quality on elite teams.

So it's not a huge bar to cross. All Fields has to do is be about the 15th or 16th best QB and he'll top Jimmy.

Yeah. You can never be fully sure. And I've not been fully blown away by anyone in this draft (haven't seen any insane, inhuman efficiency of motion on some throws like I saw with Mahomes in college from any of these guys).

But... his skill set is probably better than the NFL median in virtually every category.

I was kidding, I thought my smilies gave that away

The biggest weakness I've seen is that he's consistently late. He's the type of QB that has to see it to throw it. You rarely see him throw with anticipation or throw a receiver open. Also, he needs to learn to modulate his velocity. Dude has a big-time arm and can at times put too much velocity on shorter/intermediate throws that require touch. I think he leaves the pocket too early at times as well. He's very Cam Newton-ish in multiple aspects.

But the dude has all the tools. I wish we could be a fly on the wall in Kyle's office when he evaluates him.

I have Fields as the #4 in this class. Lawrence Wilson Lance. Mac Jones has 2nd round value imo

That's what scares me with this kid. Mental processing is a big thing for QBs at the next level. Knowing what the defense is doing and where to get the ball and getting it out quickly.

I'm not sure about this. He seems to throw some routes with anticipation. I remember hearing that OSU runs a lot of choice routes. Is it possible that he's holding the ball to see where his WR chooses to go on those routes?
Interesting stat when we're talking about these players going through reads and such
