I'll be very excited with Fields. But, if Shanahan picks Lance - I'm gonna be beyond excited. Shanahan + Lance will wreck this league - in a similar way Reid and Mahomes have and will continue to do so.

What similarities do you see in Lance and Mahomes that lead you to that conclusion?

I would say Lance's college career is closer to Lamar Jackson's than it is to Mahomes. Lance looks like a better passer, but Lamar threw for more yards and more TDs against better competition on 2 different seasons, that Lance did in his 1.

I'm not saying Lance comp is Mahomes - even though there are some similarities - like size, arm strength, ability to break tackles, and throwing on the run with great velocity.

I'm saying - bc of his mental aptitude - he could truly understand Shanahan's offense and take it to another level.

College stats are college stats. He's doing what's asked of him. If you watch Lance and Lamar - you know they're not similar at all.

I would argue that they are more similar than he is to Mahomes.

You'd be wrong. Lamar and Lance are not similar at all other than both had big rushing numbers. They don't even run with the ball the same way. One is elusive and pure speed - other is breaking tackles and more of a power runner.

And which type of "runner" is Mahomes? That's my point! Mahomes averaged less than 3 yds per rush in college. Lance and Jackson both averaged just over 6.

Mahomes is more like a Lance runner. Power runner - hard to bring down due to his size and strength. Though I think Lance is faster. Also, I think Lance will be bigger. He's 230lbs at age 20. His frame is massive. I can see him put on 10-15lbs easily without losing speed.

Find me one truck stick highlight from Mahomes at Texas tech. Mahomes averaged less than 3 yds per carry in college. Both Lance and Jackson are just over 6.

Mahones isn't and never was a "runner."

Basically if Shanahan picks Jones it's a fireable offense, at least based on the information available right now. Especially in light of the Solomon Thomas/CJ Beathard fiasco.

He's not picking Jones. He's not tipping his hand. He might even be controlling the narrative by sending subtle signals that he may prefer Jones. If he feels that there's one guy he wants above all others, one guy to bet the farm on, I'm pretty sure he would keep that a secret maybe only three or four people know. To me, the only guy you bet the farm on between Jones, Fields, and Lance is Fields or maybe Lance.

Mahomes was never a "runner." He's a runner in the way Aaron Rodgers or Alex Smith are runners. You're talking about pocket passers with mobility that in college did the vast majority of their damage with their arms, like Fields.

Never really said that though. I said - Lance has similar ability of breaking tackles. Comparing their body size. Not saying Mahomes runs as often as those guys.

I'd like to know what sources Michael Lombardi has that allows him to say with such matter-of-factness that Justin Fields won't go number 3. It's been reported (and not refuted) that Shanny's and Lynch's own assistants don't even know who the pick will be. And we all know how the two have stellar at keeping any info from getting out. So unless Lynch or Shanny (or one of their wives) is his source I really question his source.

Doesn't have to run 10 times a game. He can run when needed. When he does - it is more similar to Lance.

This is what Lance can do in the NFL and more often bc he's is more gifted runner. Similar in style doesn't mean exactly same or same frequency.

The pick is gonna be Justin Fields. I knew it the moment we made that huge trade

I saw it speculated that Lombardi has connections to the Patriots FO and that may be where he's getting that intel? I guess the assumption would be that our FO told them something while discussing a possible trade for Jimmy, which if true feels absolutely unforgivable. No matter who we draft, if it comes out that anyone outside the organization knew ahead of time...

Indeed that would be unforgivable, because that would mean that it came from Shanny or Lynch. Given what we already know I find that highly unlikely. Now, Lombardi may ultimately be right. We may wind up drafting Lance or Jones, but it won't be because Lombardi had insider knowledge. At best he has insider's best educated guess.

If Shanny and Lynch's assistants don't even know who the pick will be how in the hell can Patriots FO sources be able to give him accurate knowledge about the pick? If Fields is indeed the pick (like I think, and hope, it will be) then Lombardi dump his Patriot sources.

It seems to me that if the Niners have their eyes on one guy, they probably want to let other teams believe they want someone else. It could be amateur hour, or it could be gamesmanship. If Kyle sees there is a prize waiting at three I'm guessing it's most likely the guy not being talked about in the media through third hand sources.
