I'd like to know what sources Michael Lombardi has that allows him to say with such matter-of-factness that Justin Fields won't go number 3. It's been reported (and not refuted) that Shanny's and Lynch's own assistants don't even know who the pick will be. And we all know how the two have stellar at keeping any info from getting out. So unless Lynch or Shanny (or one of their wives) is his source I really question his source.

This guy is a 🤡. Keep the receipts
I cannot imagine Fields outside of the 3 top picks in any draft's years...
I got the same feeling with Watson, so maybe i am stupid

I find it kinda funny how for a month there's been reports that we want Jones and we hear nothing. As soon as people start saying we want Fields theres a report that says no we want Lance or Jones.

It seems to me that if the Niners have their eyes on one guy, they probably want to let other teams believe they want someone else. It could be amateur hour, or it could be gamesmanship. If Kyle sees there is a prize waiting at three I'm guessing it's most likely the guy not being talked about in the media through third hand sources.

It's gonna be Fields.

Never really said that though. I said - Lance has similar ability of breaking tackles. Comparing their body size. Not saying Mahomes runs as often as those guys.

The body size between all these guys isn't much different. They're all around the same height and weight but Mahomes in terms of his style played far more like Fields in college than Lance.

You have guys that can run but don't look to do it often and guys whose running ability is a huge part of who they are as quarterbacks. Fields and Mahomes go into the first box, Lance the second.

It's gonna be Fields. You knew it the moment the trade deal was done. He was the only one you had to go that high up for that far out from the draft. This is the WAS RG3 type deal reincarnated

Coach even took his mask down so we could see that smile. It's gonna be Fields. It has been all along

I think Fields is the safer pick over Lance. But, wouldn't mind Lance at all.

I'm just ready for them to pick whoever and get this done with so we can move.

Youre not stupid Fields is the real deal. I think hes better than Lawrence and Wilson. Lance is a close second. I just feel like Lawrence and Wilson are sucessfull college qbs but not gonna be as good pros.

Mahomes is more like a Lance runner. Power runner - hard to bring down due to his size and strength. Though I think Lance is faster. Also, I think Lance will be bigger. He's 230lbs at age 20. His frame is massive. I can see him put on 10-15lbs easily without losing speed.

Uh....yeah you did. Don't try to back track now.

Yes, as far as running style. Lol you said Lance is like Lamar bc their running stats are similar which is laughable bc stats and style are two different things.

Lamar's style of running is nothing like Lance. Mahomes - when he chooses to run - is how Lance runs - though Lance is faster and will probably be much bigger in 2 years.

If you can't understand this basic distinction - then pointless to continue this discussion.

I doubt very seriously that the pick is Lance. He's good, but Lance has WHY too much development to be had. He needs at least 2 seasons to be bridged in. We have one more season with Jimmy. Fields will be the better pick as he'll actually be ready by mid season (not that he'll be the mid season starter). In 2022 he'll be hitting the ground running. So I can't see Lance being the pick.

Size and weight may be similar - I think frame wise Mahomes and Lance are closer.

Yes, Mahomes passed more and ran less - just like fields. But, imo Mahomes arm strength is closer to Lance's arm strength - which is more than Fields - and off balance throws come more naturally to Lance just like they do to Mahomes. Now, Mahomes is at his own level but that's where I see similarities with Lance.

Also - my initial post was also about mental aspect. Mahomes is applauded for how quickly he learned Andy Reid's playbook.

QB Takeover coach - who coached both Lance and Fields said He has never seen anyone like Lance when it comes to understanding the game and said his potential is highest in the draft.

Fields has a stronger arm than the vast majority of NFL starters. Lance might have a stronger arm but Fields is far closer to him in arm strength than Lance is close to Fields in accuracy.

Now can Lance improve his accuracy, sure. Josh Allen did, but there's also far more QB's who failed to improve their accuracy in any meaningful way after being drafted. Fields arm is more than sufficient for any play in Shanahan's playbook but he also has proven accuracy to all levels and was someone that had to rely upon his arm far more often to win games.

I don't think the upside between the two is that much different but I see Fields as the better QB right now. If you draft Lance you're taking him hoping that he can be as good as Fields is now and then get better in the future.

Let me guess: you think Jimmy and Stafford are interchangeable as well, right? Who was the one saying Watson and Jimmy are about the same? Was that you?

Mahomes is a great NFL player. No need to embellish his college days to pump him up. He doesn't need it.

He's a great NFL player and he was a great college player, drafted 10th overall, before Watson. Media personnel were wrong due to their bias against scheme (as were many people here).

I'm not pumping anyone. You are DOWNGRADING someone for some mysterious reason, and YOU are pumping up FIELDS, as evidenced by you claiming a deep pass where he had room to set his feet is the same as one thrown off the back foot and five yards deeper. Why you would feel the need to do that in the Fields thread where 90% of us (including me) want the 49ers to draft him is also a mystery.

It's really not what's happening though.

if you saw him as this elite prospect kudos to you but we have to look at the national media and general consensus when talking about what kind of prospect someone was.

Fields has been an elite prospect since HS. The only thing preventing him from being the top dog was being in the same state/class as Trevor Lawrence.

I know some people were high on Mahomes' potential but how many had him as a top 10 pick even before the draft? Even with people talking Fields down for some crazy reason after a covid season...how many have him going outside the top 10? Outside of Charlie Casserly that is. For reference Casserly had Mahomes going 32nd in his final mock draft in 2017.
