I honestly do not understand how anyone can be confident with anything at this point.

It would be catastrophic if the 49ers pass up on Fields. Lawrence is the #1 mainly due to his accomplishments. Fields is a very close #2. Now take into account his mobility and arm strength and there's no comparison.

Fields is the best prospect at QB in this draft and in quite some years now. There hasn't been another QB that has checked the number of boxes Fields checks. It's a no brainer.

The only reason to pass on Fields is if Lance somehow really is a walking football IQ genius to rival Shanahan.

These are things I have no idea about. We know Fields is very smart, we know he tests literally off the charts. Nobody who has worked with him has concerns about his football IQ but head to head...who knows.

To me I have to judge off things I see on tape, things I hear/see about the background of these players and I can't myself make the call which guy is that much better at football IQ.

So to me it should be Fields. If it ends up being Lance I'm still pretty excited and hoping he's the best guy of the bunch the way Josh Allen is looking like in his draft class. I just personally think Fields is that guy. From the elite label his whole career, yet with a slight chip on his shoulder because he's always been #2 behind Lawrence in most rankings.

I told fools a few weeks ago we moved up for Fields. When we confirmed with Saleh at Wilson pro day it was gonna be Lawrence Wilson we went to three to get Fields

We will all see come draft night

That's silly. If Lance demonstrates that he's a better option then he should be the choice. I'm not convinced at this time that is the case. Could change though.

There should be no questioning what Lance COULD be, which is pretty exciting. The issue, at least for myself and I'm sure others, is that the things that he has to show that make him a safer pick than Fields...cannot be shown during a pro day.

Those things are his play vs better competition - specifically how his physical running would stack up vs much bigger, faster, stronger and smarter players.

His accuracy with the so called mechanics work he's done, while facing that better competition. Mechanics when nobody is trying to tear your head off are one thing. When you're getting clobbered and NFL rushers are trying to take you out, that's another story.

Not to mention Lance has been a big fish in a small pond in HS and college. There is no way to know how he will respond on a big stage or against player more athletic than he is, or even how he will react when he is down a few scores since he has never been put in those situations up to this point. It isn't his fault, but the team that drafts him will be guessing on how he will react to those situations. Fields on the other hand seems to have been dealing with adversity on multiple fronts for a while now. All of his possible pitfalls seems tro be more tangible and therefore more coachable.

I agree. Only reason Kyle would take Lance is if Kyle would rather work with a younger more blank type of drawing board. Other than that, Fields is hands down the best QB prospect to come out of the draft for quite some time now.

He has everything Luck, Manning, Lamar, Mahomes, Vick, and Allen were missing.

The original claim I was arguing against was that "Lance would need two years of sitting before he's ready" while Fields would only need one year or less.

The person making the claim and yourself are assuming that the amount of throws and the level of competition are why the above statement is true.

When in reality you don't know who's going to be ready, I don't know, and like you said "every situation is different" and every player has a different learning curve. So how can you make an absolute claim like that? I'll give you a hint. You can't.

It would the same thing if I claimed to know that Lance is ready to play now and that Fields needs two years of sitting. I can guess and say I think Lance is more ready due to his familiarity with the system, being under center and so on... but to claim you know it to be true is just flat out wrong either way.

If you think you know it to be true then you have to apply that same line of thinking to every other prospect where again it will be easy to find a contradicting example.

I rest my case.

True. Nobody knows when a QB will be ready for success until they get thrown into the fire, but it is easy to tell when they are not.

True, I've said Lance def needs a year, maybe two, but you make a great point. I've also said I think every rookie QB would benefit sitting their first year.

Look at who wins the SB, most had the luxury of some time to adapt at first. Brady, Mahomes, Brees etc. Obviously the Manning's and Wilson counter that, but these are all HOF'ers we are talking about.

I still feel like bringing a rookie qb along slowly has long term benefits vs tossing them in there. Kyle directly mentioned this which put more weight to Fields and Lance over Jones to me. I do think Kyle is the right guy to grow a qb regardless.

Just this alone supports Fields strongly when you consider that accuracy is one of the areas least likely to improve from college to the NFL. It happened with Josh Allen and now people seem to think that every raw athletic QB who struggled with his accuracy in college is going to be Allen but even with Allen it took him a couple blah seasons to get to where he is now.

I definitely wouldn't go that far.

However I do think people are really underselling him but we'll see on draft night just how much he drops behind Lawrence, who has for the most part always been the guy keeping Fields from being top dog.

He does seem(at least to me) to be one of the rare prospects who seems to have the impressive athletic/physical tools and has the production and pocket play you rarely see from guy with those skillsets.

I didn't see anyone talking about 2 years of sitting. I was talking about Lance being pro ready and I don't think he's week 1 rookie level. Can he do it? Of course. Is that best for his career? That I question.

I can make an educated guess because that's all we're doing here. A guy who played in FCS, had his last game in early October of last year? A guy who only had 318 career attempts passing and that being in FCS.

Yes I think it's a stretch to think he will come in as a starting QB for an NFL franchise looking to actually win games week 1 of his rookie season.

Knowing how to line up, where to go with the ball and what the defense is doing is great but to then make that jump from FCS to NFL is a big big ask.

I can't think of another guy who did something like that.

You think you found a contradicting case...you didn't. You found a guy who had 2 years of starts including playing a full season as a 4th year player and one who had double the attempts Lance had. You had a guy who went to the senior bowl and showed off what he could do there.
Fields is the complete package....we should have had this s**t locked down weeks ago and been arguing about who to take at 43 lol.

I hope when Fields gets drafted 3rd overall they interview him and ask him how he feels and his response is "I'm still processing it"
