What if Lawrence was bleck

Huh

I find it weird to have to dance around it for fear of offending people, but race is definitely having an input on the draft coverage of these QB's and even the projections on this board.

It's probably more of the stereotype that suggests black QB's are more interested in being mobile than cerebral, than it is racism, but it's certainly happening.

Again, not trying to turn this into a Mac jones debate but guys on this board said the same thing about him. In fact you posted a tweet that 67% of passes are 1st reads.

So I don't think it's a black and white thing . In this particular case.
That's an incredible article

It's definitely not a black and white thing. That's just something the media always pushes and it's nonsense.

I have my concerns with fields and his tendency to process things slower than what you'd like to see. That doesn't mean he can't but the fact is that's what the tape shows.

he's got the tools but he had some downright awful games this year which is concerning.

65%+ is extremely normal, for all QBs. Only reason I know that is because people were retweeting something similar about Jimmy, and then someone else found a tweet showing that most QBs also have roughly the same number. That stat means nothing in this case.

Lawrence had some "awful" games too. And it's definitely not a media thing, the mobile, black QB, has always had extra scrutiny on him.

Ever heard of unconscious bias? Some people don't even realise they're doing it, but trust me it's there.

It's always been the case, it's not helped when you have busts like the way Haskins did it.

I agree with this whole heartedly but in this case I don't believe it to be a racial thing.

One QB evaluator Cossell has Lance over Fields in part due to this.

Oh I work with a lady that definitely have unconscious bias ( me black , her white) and work in WV for 25 plus years. I worked through a bunch of unconscious biases.

I don't think this is one of them cases

Agree to disagree then.

I think Haskins being a huge bust is hurting fields more than anything. Same with Mac Jones being an Alabama qb.

Paxton Lynch had the same label. So did Baker Mayfield and Johnny Manziel.

I think it's less race about race and more about style of play. If you're a QB that takes off and runs a lot, its assumed that you're impatient playing in the pocket and liable to take off too soon. Sometimes that is an accurate judgment, sometimes not.

I agree with this

I agree with this. Steve Young was even labeled this. Tebow(and rightfully so)

Rightfully so for both though. Young was also a scramble first guy until he was taught out to play QB the right way.

I totally get it when you're a QB like Tebow or even Cam, why people would say that about you. But Fields is nowhere close to being a run first QB. They do some designed runs for him, but almost every single college does a lot of that. I would say he's more like John Elway, than Young or Cam.
