I was still pretty confident we were drafting fields until yesterday. It's not the media noise, kyle def seemed to be in defensive mode because of the flack about potentially drafting mac at 3. Really hope I'm wrong. I still have hope, but it's not as strong as before. Kyle is a master actor/troller if fields is the pick.

He could've been getting defensive about anything. It doesn't mean its bc him potentially drafting Jones. Maybe he getting defensive bc he's hearing flack from fans and for all we know, he wants nothing to do with Jones and the questions are annoying him even more. Point is, you cant come to conclusions alone on that. I think a lot of fans are over analyzing everything he says

He could be getting defensive that everyone "actually believes" he would draft Jones over Fields.

I like this guy even more after watching path to the draft with him, Pitts, Parsons and Horn.

You all may not wanna believe it but race has always been a factor when it comes to black QBs. Dont kid yourself. I think we are just now recently starting to accept that black qbs can be as good and as intelligent as white qbs. Its no different than the rest of the country. Blacks have alot of obstacles in life in general that most dont have the stomach to admit. Turn a blind eye all you want but thats reality and most likely if your not black you wont ever get it. Am I accusing Shanahan of that NO..not at all but its a real thing. Hence why guys like Lamar Jackson get suggested to play wide receiver even after winning a heisman as a QB. 32 teams and only 10 starting qbs are black. And thats the most EVER at one time. Dont act like the race thing is something being made up. Fields in particular been viewed as an elite qb prospect his whole adult life and some of us have the audacity to think he somehow is not smart enough or have the processing ability to go thru more than one read. Gtfoh.

It's embarrassing. Here we are in the 21st century and these (dumb to begin with) archaic thought processes still exist. SMFH.

Maybe I end up being dead wrong on this, but I think Fields will end up being a better QB than Jones.

If they take Fields, hats off to the FO for all that smoke. All of the talking heads saying most likely Jones, but if not, then it is Lance.

Lombardi and Albright will have a lot of egg on their face.

Yea we don't want to get this thread shut down talking about race over football

If he falls to 32 then I'm gonna have my antennas up as well but I'm pretty sure Fields race this day and age won't let him fall that far but if it does I'll be in agreement with posters here

Wouldn't Lance and Fields need to drop? For it to be about race?
Ever since they said they moved up to get 1 of the top 3 QBs and then as they evaluated everyone, the 4 and 5 came into the picture.

they must of believed that Lawrence, Wilson, and fields were the top three initially? At least hopefully. I think fields was the choice all along

-Kyle Shanahan

"Our" favorite one....Lynch and Shanahan are on the same page about this pick.

As much as Lynch like Leadership, and "Gold Star Players," J just can't see him ruling out Fields.

You guys do realize Kyle could have top 3 listed differently then Urban Myer does, right?

He also could have them the same.

I'm not crying racism. But you can't tell me that prejudices and biases aren't playing a part in the evaluation of Fields, Lance, and Jones. We've seen this movie many times before.

But everything at this point is perception. Fields hasn't dropped at all. If he falls then I'm sure there are legit reasons why. Lance punches holes into the prejudices theory imo.

It's not just perception. There are actual statements being made by those in and connected to the league, which then permeate through respective fanbases, including ours. You have people in the Jones thread echoing that he's the smartest QB who ever lived and saying that Fields and Lance are slow to process. Which is just ridiculous and not backed up by the tape or advanced statistics.

The only legit knock on Feilds is he's slow off his first read. Folks try to play it off as his first read was always open, but the film don't lie.

Do you understand that the offense he was in at OSU is predicated on option routes? So he has HAS to stay on the primary read to allow the WR to make his choice on his route.

If their system requires staring down your first read (which it doesn't) then no wonder they always lose the big game. I got no dog in this race, I'm fine with whomever they take, including Fields. Making excuses for the guy doesn't change the fact that he is slow on his reads occasionally.

Clemson didn't think his reads were slow!

Plot twist -

Fields the guy the whole time, the Jets basically committing to Wilson at the BYU Pro Day sealed the deal. Both Atlanta and Carolina have a high grade on him, so SF had to get in front of them. The rumor of NE trying to move up for him, might be from another team and not NE, whatever purpose that serves.

Why? The 49ers don't want the Jets to get cold feet or some team in the top 10 offering a ransom to take him at 2, but the Jets aren't moving from 2. Maybe if they didn't move Darnold. Consider the source, but:

If we get Justin Fields vs Clemson we're getting the best QB in the draft by far. The dude was doing things I didn't see in any game previously. Moving and sliding in the pocket checking the ball down... it was awesome to see.
