Slater if he's the truth, then that will elevate McGlinch's play

Not if db's are rag dolling him. McG has to elevate his own play at the moment. He's his own biggest issue.
Not having your feet set and overplaying your position can get you ragdolled by the kicker. looked like it was more mental than anything
If we are picking him to be a RG, I'll pass. Brunskill and McKivitz are plenty of depth at that spot. We need a Center BADLY.

No center worthy of first round consideration. Do agree we need a quality center badly. Seems like Humphrey is rated highest but see him consistently mocked in 2nd round then Myers and Dickerson in the 3rd.. Would like to see the 49ers go Mack or Linsley in FA and maybe go Hill or Jackson in R4.

Slater is a tackle that is versatile enough to be dominant in the interior. It's good to have that to take over at one of the tackle spots if needed.

G Slater and RT McGlinch would be great.. having G Brunskill/Mckiv RT Slater is a great back up option if the first option doesn't work out
I know Slater is really good. But is he good enough to replace T.Williams if he decides to walk and take a bigger contract that the Niners can't match?

Well it's a huge ask of any rookie to be pro bowl level. The guys last pretty much managed it, but I had them all rated higher.

Some don't even think he has the length to play tackle. I do, and for me if you can block Chase Young you can play in the NFL.

The bigger thing if Trent does walk though is that you might get some of these Tackle needy teams jumping us, the Chargers for example or he just goes earlier.

I don't think we can look at the draft as the saviour in our negotiations, Trent has to come back as long has he has the inclination, if you have to pay him Bahktiari money, do it.

Oh yeah I would love for T.Williams to resign with the Niners, just asking cause we'll never know with these players nowadays. Trent knows this will be his last real chance for a big payday and a team like the Jets with a tremendous amount of cap space who now runs the same system as KS could drive his price out of range for the Niners to match. Mike LaFleur would love to have a cornerstone LT who already knows the system for an easy transition as a first time OC. Just wondering, thanks for the input man..
Last year we had to hear how taking a tackle at 13 to play guard who never played guard was the end of world! Here we are 12 months later and all of a sudden it's a thing!

What is silly, We are not going to start a rookie C, we are not going to start a rookie center over our back ups who have Kyle's cadence implemented already if our starter gets hurt

This is where you are failing the logic side when comparing this to LBs, There can be 3 LBs on the field at a time. LBs get rotated during games. There's more opportunity for a mid round 3rd or 4th LB on the depth chart to play than a 3rd to 4th Center on the depth chart

If there is a center there that you think can become a decade long starter a couple years down the line once Mack is done then it would be worth picking a center in the mid rounds.

That of course depends on how Kyle feels about the 2 the two guys you named. Though I reckon if we have to add Mack he can't be all in on them being long term solutions.

He can play all 5 positions and I don't think people thought McG would be that bad this past season.

Plus it's a different draft with different talent...there isn't a DT worth a top 25 pick in this draft IMO. I don't really see a EDGE prospect worth a top 20 pick (I'm sure some will reach). I don't see them taking a WR at 12 (Waddle would be pretty sweet) also SF traded away our all-pro DT as well (and Solly was a bust).

Which zero snaps that he played at LG, C, RG tells you that he can play all 5 positions? Plus, none of what you said changes the fact that last year multiple posters (myself included) didnt want to see us draft an OT to play guard when he had never played guard.

Who's available is irrelvant as the argument was, and should still be that picking a player to play a position that you don't know he can play that early should be a big no no. If you want him at LT/RT that's one thing. To select him in hopes to play guard isn't the best use of resources.

Not only does Slater have scheme versatility, but he has been highly touted as the best "position flexible" talent in the offensive line in this draft. TDN and DJ have noted that Slater is more than capable to play the interior line positions, and maybe even becoming an All-Pro as a center.

These types of selections happen a lot, but his success at the LT and RT positions, especially while pulling, shows he could be successful playing guard and center in a zone blocking scheme.
