I think the plan would be to put him at RT in a yr if McG doesn't improve.

Fits the scheme like a glove. Day 1 starter imo. Maybe NC and GM would calm down for a hot min if he was the pick

If he was the pick, calming down would be the last thing NC does lol

Honestly based who's in this draft, I wouldn't hate Slater at all.

Paye is probably gone, same with all the QBs...so if they can't move up for a QB I wouldn't hate Slater at all. He's fits this scheme so well, length is an issue but I think he's got enough athletic ability to play outside. If anything he can start inside day 1.

Small trade down and snagging Slater works. This draft just doesn't have a bunch of elite talent at the positions we need....besides QB.

I like Slater and Darrisaw along with Wyatt Davis. The first two would give us some versatility and could either play inside or push McGlinchy inside and get him off the edge.
Is he really worth the 12th pick, no clue about this kid.
I would much rather have a T/G who can play multiple positions than Kwity Paye who I think is highly overrated.
This dude has some crazy grip strength. Watch how fast he gets inside Chase's framework on the 2nd rep and controls him with 1 arm. Zero lunge in his punch. Beast. His stock is going to hinge on his length. His arms don't look very long, but if they're 34"+, he's going early.

Yeah he really is... with some of the talent at QB its easy to hope we get one... but if we grabbed Slater at 12 I would feel really good about our OL moving forward into the next decade, weather that's at OG or OT eventually

Yeah same here, not sold on Paye.

Slater is a beast tho. IMO Sewell, Darrisaw, Slater, Leatherwood and Cosmi are the only OL I would pick in the first round in case T.Williams walks.

I'm with you. That versatility is gold and the potential to be well above average wherever he plays. We are in a solid spot, either we get a good qb, or all of them are gone dropping an elite talent to us at 12.
I want either Slater or Surtain

zero chance you push McG inside, his problem since ND was handling power. Throwing him in a tight space and dealing with 300lb bulls is gonna be much worse. Horrible idea.

This. Paye could be good, but I think people are overrating him a bit in such a short year with no elite talent at the edge this upcoming draft. If the team were looking for an edge rusher, I may as well take Rousseau who's got scary size and potential.

But back to Slater. If we don't take a QB at 12, I hope he's the pick. Just love his versatility and how unbelievably quick his feet are.
Very interested in Slater, sticking him at RG next to McGlinchey would be a huge bonus in the zone game, and I think he'll help him in pass pro as well.

Then we'd also have a fall back if either of tackles don't work out or sign.

It's also not crazy that he could learn to play Center and give Kyle and athletic piece of the puzzle (though I do like Brunskill's progress)
Still bring back Trent Williams.
Draft Slater and plug him as RG. Perhaps to be moved to RT if Mike doesn't improve and he is gone next year.
Draft a Center in round 2, Creed Humphrey would be nice.
Didn't get many responses early when I posted about Slater, but he is definitely in play in the early to middle part of the first round. He can play all along the offensive line including LT and that may be important depending on what happens with the Trent Williams re-signing drama. Don't know how he would do at C, but my preference would be to draft someone like Slater along with a C/OG guy to solidify the middle of our line.
If they keep Jimmy, then Slater is probably the guy if hes there
