Laser timing? If there's no laser timing it's not much better than pro days with people trying to time them with stopwatches.
Agree, although in defense of the Exos's guys, 40 yard dash (and all the other metrics) don't always make an all pro player though. I would think there would be a hidden advantage to scouts -- if scouts who are familiar with zoom can have more zoom meetings with prospects. They don't have to travel a million miles, nowadays, to go see a player, just schedule a zoom appointment - and download some tape from their account (or have them sent by the prospect to the scout?). It can save time and money and can get valuable scouting data and build some sort of relationship with the prospect.
The thing about the NFL scouting combine is that not every prospect was invited to the NFL combine, and there were some guys that fell through the cracks that were able to make the teams later on. I remember reading something about Bullitt Bob Hays being drafted in the very very late rounds (he would be undrafted today) because he had to be on the Olympic team and couldn't be looked at by the scouts. That would be an example of guys falling through the cracks in todays covid environment.
Scouts in general are really going to earn their money this year.
Agree. I think a lot more Undrafted players will be making NFL rosters this year than in any other year because of Covid hampering a lot of NFL team's scouting efforts. With a lot of the games being cancelled, a lot of teams will have to project based on past games almost a year to two years old. That's really hard to do, I think.
