I'm not saying the times aren't accurate but many of the linemen and LBs will drop some weight before running in order to shave a little time off. Then they bulk back up for the strength testing. Guys that big can easily drop 10-15 lbs in a day or two. Boxers often add 10-15 lbs the same day they weigh in. I think they are way over hyped. Even with the receivers we see players who run 4.28 but don't play fast of the field.
Guys used to go out and just run, do the events and move on. Now there's a whole cottage industry of facilities where college players go just to train for the Combine and max out their numbers on the various tests.
Yup all true, and everyone would do the same because it's a fact that better numbers improve draft position which improves that bank account.

Kris Kocurek is to 10-yard splits what Trent Baalke is to long arms.

Case in point: Samson Ebukam ... #49ers https://t.co/jjo2SIBN1v

interesting....sounds like 10-yard splits and broad jumps are what coach K is looking at in regards to athletic ability. It's all about explosiveness

Nice. Is Matt Barrows inferring that or does he reference a statement from Kocurek? It makes sense, tho, that short-area explosiveness would be prioritized. I think it's important in general, but a big reason why the wide 9 is so potent for pass rushing is that most tackles panic when dealing with the wide, tilted alignment in Kocurek's front. Tackles end up speeding up their pass set and open their hips up believing they need to alter their landmark and get to it quicker, which causes them to overset, abandon their technique and usually create a three-way go(outside, inside, through you) for the edge rusher. An explosive edge rusher exacerbates these issues for tackles.
the Niners have drafted one edge rusher under Kocurek, and he posted an elite 10-yard split.

It would be nice if somebody can compile 10 yards splits of the prospective edge rusher draftees and their weight. Because, I think size and strength would help the bull rush part of Kocureck's wide 9 pass rush (the *through you* part).

Weaver is not the ideal modern edge but he'll be a solid fit as a strong side DE that can stop the run and create some pressure on QBs. Gives me some Brandon Graham vibes in that doesn't get a lot of sacks but is often up in the QB's face.

This isn't that good of a edge pass rusher draft class so you better draft one in the 1st round or you might be disappointed. That's why I'm gonna continue to say draft jaelan phillips or azeez ojulari and then you add to your strength and you can rotate guys and hunt qbs in that 4th quarter with fresh guys.
man I really hope they don't reach for DE in this draft
I don't see a top 20-25 talent out of this bunch....good depth, just no elite guys. I'd rather wait on EDGE.
