2021 edge rush prospects

I don't think this is a great edge rusher class, but like OL, teams should grab a pass rusher every year. These are the guys I'd target as of today:

day 1: Azeez Ojulari - Ojulari is a very nice pass rusher that can contribute day 1. This would be Jaelan Phillips if it wasn't for his medicals and being a quitter.

day 2: Joseph Ossai - he's raw but has the tools and traits to develop in this scheme and has shown enough hand technique that demonstrates an early grasp of the position. I think just fixing his snap anticipation will make him much improved, and that's something Kocurek can help him with.

Day 3: tbd. I haven't identified a guy I really, really want that may be there on day 3.

Day 3, it's gotta be janarius Robinson. Strong, active, absolute levers, high end ankle flexibility, counters

My vote for day 3 goes to Wyatt Hubert. Strong hands, showed good dip during Senior Bowl week, and has that relentless motor.
I just got to Patrick Johnson from Tulane. Do we have numbers on this guy? I really like what I've seen from him if he's getting a day 3 label. Getting some Junior Galette vibes from Johnson.
Not sure if it got lost with the big trade up, but Jayson Oweh ran a 4.36 at 6'5", 257lb. Could be there in 2nd. Raw, sky is limit upside though.

Dude is just too damn raw to get excited about those numbers. I could easily see a team consider moving him to another position.

Imagine an athlete with those numbers at TE.

Yeah, pretty much Vernon Davis.

Paye ran a 4.5 at 260 pounds.
What do you guys think of Milton Williams as an edge rusher??

He played inside, but has an A+ athletic profile, even allowing for dodgy pro day 40 times. He ran a 4.67 40, did 34 reps, vertical jump of 38.5 inches and a broad jump of 10 feet. All at 278lbs. If the non-40 numbers are legit, he's a very explosive athlete for his size. Could he be the guy to replace Kerry Hyder and possibly be the long term starter opposite Bosa?

There's an old post on another forum from years ago (around 2011/12) by this guy Waldo, who came up with a formula which takes combine numbers for edge guys and groups them based on how athletic they are in relation to their height and weight. There's High risk boom or bust types, medium risk and low risk guys. Read through the 1st post here: http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=439601.

Basically, if you put Milton's pro day numbers into that formula, you get him coming out as Low Risk 2, the freak athlete, high probability of success guys. Now, I don't know how many moves or how polished Williams is as a rusher, I haven't seen much of him, but as an athlete, he fits into a group that has had great success in the NFL. I think he's worth a look in the 2nd/3rd round if he is still there as a very high upside guy.
Best quote I have heard about DL, specifically, edge rushers when it comes to stats.

Chris Simms: "People look at stats and sacks. For me, f**k production, I want disruption!"
I don't know if he's been talked about but Darius Hodge (DE) from Marshall should be someone we're all keeping an eye on.

He's only 6'1 but he has a great wingspan, natural bending ability, and explosiveness off the line. Reportedly ran a 4.67 40 yard dash which is pretty good. His stats aren't amazing and he didn't play against the best competition but that's why he's going to be a later round pick.

I think he's tailor made for the wide 9 and hopefully the 49ers have scouted him.

Good find. I'm going to dive into whatever tape I can find in a bit.

6'1" is a plus. Do we have pro day numbers for him?

Judging by the offseason it seems the 49ers might have the same take on the draft class for 5T DE's. It seems like a steep drop off after the upper tier.
Still love my dude Boogie, I don't see him as a super star EDGE but a constant 7-8 sack guy a yr who just f**ks up plays.
