So I take it that if they're looking for a veteran back up, the 49ers are not looking to draft one in rounds 1 and 2??

I wouldn't assume anything. FA comes first so it makes sense to have the backup in place before the draft. They would still have the option of cutting one of them or carrying 3 QB's if they like a rookie.

The only way we don't IMO is if we think Rosen is backup material.

I think they're looking at every option. One including a bridge QB for a young rookie QB

Sacks sacks sacks sacks sacks

Everybody!!!
The Niners are taking a big chance if they don't draft a QB this year. Next year isn't projected to be a great year for QBs. I assume they are going with JG this year. What if he gets hurt again or just has a mediocre year. Then they are going to be forced into taking a QB in next years draft unless they trade for one. If they can't pull off a good trade then they could end up using a high pick on a QB that isn't really great like they did when they drafted Smith.

I don't expect that they will be drafting #1 overall next tyear but they might be better off taking one of the guys that falls to them this year.

According to who? Lots of intriguing QB prospects next year. That also doesn't include guys that may turn out to be quick risers. A year ago, nobody had Zach Wilson or Mac Jones as 1st rounders.

Yes and next yr it will the same thing...."don't want to risk trading picks."

"I heard 2023 the draft class will be better" Lol

"Jimmy wasn't that bad, when he played"

this franchise hasn't gone all in on a QB prospect since Smith and that's because they had to, picking #1 with no rookie pay scale

It's cool, we will just draft another DL and have to trade Bosa in a couple yrs because we have 15 1st rd picks invested there and can't pay everyone

So many sacks

Next year it's all about Carson Strong though.

No it won't be...it will be the same aggressively prudent BS.

Strong could very well be a top 10 pick all said and done.

don't hold your breath on that one

At this point, from what I've heard it isn't expected to be a strong year. There isn't a Lawrence or Herbert. You're right that there could be players that develop but there isn't 1 or 2 guys that scouts have been drooling over for 3 or 4 years. With 10 draft picks, the Niners can afford to draft a guy if someone they like drops to them at #112. Otherwise, look for someone in the 2nd or 3rd round. Chances are slim he makes it, but chances are less for the guy you don't pick.

Yes going "all in" means waiting until the 2nd to "get your guy" lol. Worked out real well too

I guess they went all in with Nate Davis in the 5th rd or Jeff Driskel in the 6th according to you
