Miss me with that b******t.

I am sure I am not the only one to watch the games, and others surely have more professional evaluations than I do, but I am going to share my thoughts regardless. Justin Fields played a phenomenal game. If this was the only game people saw, he would be the first overall pick. So I know that is a poor way to judge a player, but just tossing that out there. But a couple of things of note. His deep ball was pretty impressive, but he wasn't perfect. Overthrew an open receiver in one case, threw to wrong shoulder in another (player did a great adjustment). There was one time he didn't pull the trigger, and throw the deep ball (only receiver that was remotely open) and took a coverage sack. It was also interesting to look at him post-injury. Post injury, he couldn't run the football, and never tried once. His coach tried to protect him by running mostly run plays. So he became a pocket passer, relying on a strong run game. If he truly was a running QB, the defense would have shut him down. But instead, he still did a pretty good job moving the offense down field. In fact, there were 2 deep strikes that punished a defense that was focused on stopping the running game. I would LOVE to have a QB with the deep strike ability of Justin Fields that could keep a defense honest, and not just focus on stopping the running game and short passing game.
In the abbreviated version of the National Championship, it is hard to compare Mac Jones vs Justin Fields. There were a ton of cases where Mac Jones completed a short pass, even behind the line of scrimmage, and then an Alabama WR would run for 10-20 yards. There were some nice strikes to wide open WR in the intermediate range. Justin Fields had some nice plays, but they were cutting out the non productive plays, so it is hard for me to grade him fairly.
Even during the Clemson game that everyone say may be his best game of his career. He was throwing the ball to the wrong dudes. Yes he was still either completing passes but he was making harder throws because he wasn't throwing to the right receivers. Which is part of the processing being questioned.

Not saying he is perfect, but how often do we see NFL quarterbacks making the wrong reads? Regardless, I consider it a win if he makes the wrong read and still completes the pass.

Is funny how we talk about reads, when only people in the offensive install meetings know the order of the progressions. Even if you pick out old playcalls, different coaches can have different progressions.
All I know is that game impressed me more than any single game I've watched for any prospect, and he did half of it with probably broken ribs.

What "wrong dudes" did he throw to? It wasnt just a great game, it was one of the greatest performances in CFP history... going up against Football Jesus (Lawrence) and getting his ribs cracked.

Justin Fields and Trey Lance are both expected to incorporate Kyle Shanahan staples into their second pro days, giving the #49ers the best look possible at their options for the No. 3 pick. @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/2GV4FCqWXd

Lance's play-action mechanics are a thing of beauty. Shanahan gonna get a stiffy watching Lance's attention to detail in selling PA like the Sheriff.
