49ers need a 5'10" running QB. With a great arm and accuracy.

Keep an eye out for McKenzie Milton next year then. Another Hawaii QB who excelled in the college level. He's transferring out of UCF. He could've been a sure 1st rounder or early 2nd if wasn't for his injury IMO, now he'll probably be a 3rd or 4th depending on how he plays next season assuming he's fully recovered and healthy. Listed at 5'11 and still undefeated in the college level IIRC. He has that tight quick release that Shanahan loves. Very accurate and mobile. Led Mililani HS to a couple of state championships here in Hawaii.

He was a 4th to 5th rounder at best before he mangled his knee. Small quarterback with a so so at best arm. He should have stuck with Hawaii in the first place since Colt Brennan was always his spirit animal.

Well I did said it was my opinion, and this your opinion as well, to each his own. And the thread is asking for a small mobile QB so...

Montana 3.0.

On the subject of this thread, I hope we aren't going to turn into size queens with QB too now. We know (or at least I think) what elite QB play looks like. Give us a guy that will attack all over the field, has good mobility, and can process defenses quickly and we'll be good for years to come.

Yeah, I don't get the whole size thing with all these positions, like we need a 6'4 WR, 6'1 CB, etc...

Fair enough but I don't think you're going to find anyone credible who at any time felt that Milton was a 1st round caliber prospect. He's on the smaller side like Murray and Wilson. However both Murray and Wilson had elite arm talent and athleticism. Milton has neither. His arm is average at best and he's "college athletic", able to run around against college defenders but would be far less successful doing so in the NFL. Murray and Wilson were both built thick, like RB's, Milton is built like a slot receiver. Wilson balled out like crazy in a pro style offense at Wisconsin his final year. Milton is more your stereotypical college spread QB, reasonably accurate, able to throw on the move, run an offense but not a guy I'd imagine that NFL scouts were ever particularly wowed by. He's just like any number of other guys like Troy Smith, Kellen Moore, Colt Brennan and Ken Dorsey that succeeded in college but were never destined for NFL stardom.

He is/was a really good college QB and there's nothing wrong with that but for a guy without any sort of special traits, whose athleticism isn't outstanding, his odds of doing anything in the NFL beyond holding a clipboard were never going to be very good and now after his knee got destroyed, just being able to play again in college alone will be a major win for him. He seems like a good dude so a lot of people are rooting for him but I think if he has a future in the NFL its likely to be one that is on the coaching side of things.

You're probably right. Still will be rooting for the kid to play well next season wherever he goes and hopefully he'll find a home in the NFL. I'm aware my biased over Hawaii QBs is a little over the top but we'll see what happens next season. Btw, Colt Brennan was a system QB and was never a fan of him.

I don't think anyone is rooting against him, he seems to embody everything you want in a quarterback and an athlete in general. I thought his career was basically done because of how awful that injury was but just him being able to play again will be a huge victory.
What about Spencer Rattler in 2022? Ride out next season with Jimmy, stockpile draft picks in case we need to move up, then Rattler's rookie year is also Jimmy's final contract year so he can redshirt ala Mahomes/takeover in case of injury.

I'm in no way qualified to evaluate QBs, but he looks to be strong armed and mobile - maybe more the speed of Mahomes or Russell Wilson than Kyler or Lamar. Oklahoma and Riley have been an NFL QB factory lately. Listed at 6'1", 205 so could end up closer to Baker Mayfield size by the draft.
BRYCE YOUNG - Alabama... but he wont be ready til 2023 Draft..

And he decided on FSU, FSU is a s**t hole right now and I'm a Noles fan. They haven't done s**t right in that program since Jimbo Fisher left and this year there's no signs still that they're heading in the right direction. Every time I look there's a kid that decommits from the school so I don't expect him to do much
We need a qb that can stay healthy

He looks pretty good. Somebody to keep an eye on. He's got a little Russell Wilson in him. That's good.
How about a normal sized QB?

He is shifty, quick, fast, throws with great accuracy from the pocket, outside the pocket, throws on the run, creates plays out of thin air off script. His arm is much stronger than people give him credit for. Most experienced of the guys here. Super Bowl win and appearance and stats out of this world.

2) Russell Wilson 2.0 - Arizona - All the same see above. Except faster, younger and the only downside is less experienced. But that will come with time. It's remarkable how good he is already. Probable Super Bowl winner someday. Just look how good he is already.

3) Russell Wilson 3.0 - Drafted by 49ers - Where can we find this guy? Who is this player? We need to acquire him immediately. We need a Franchise QB. I'm sick of looking at this garbage we field at QB for like a decade. We need a real QB.

We need a QB who can throw touchdowns and win games. Who can create when the play breaks down. Not a QB who hides behind a powerhouse defense built from top draft picks for years and years. And a power running game with a few play action passes mixed in. We need somebody who can throw down the field and go vertical. You have to attack the whole field. Not just hide your QB.

So where can we find this guy? Who do you suggest? It's a proven winning formula. We need a much better QB. There is no doubt about it.

the college game is pretty much transitioning into these types of QBs anyway. We will eventually get one, even if Shanahan hates that style. Maybe in 10 years, he will grow up and adapt.

The 49ers don't really need any mold or type of QB....they, like every NFL team, need a good QB. Mobility is nice and all, but given the choice of a Russell or a Kyler vs. so-called statues like P. Manning or Marino.....I'm taking the latter every day and twice on game days.

where are these Marino and Manning types? Last one was Andrew Luck. The pro style QB is going out of fashion in college. If they wanted a guy like that, they should have went all in on Brady.

If the 49ers are in position to draft him then rest assured that both Lynch and Shanahan have been fired. They can get away with struggling this year due to COVID and the injury issues but if they're in the running for a top QB prospect next season, patience will rapidly start running out.

lol, they could not address the QB at all this off season, and still be fine next year even with a top 5 pick. Jed does not have the guts to go back to the Tomsula/Chip Kelly carousel of coaches. I don't believe it
