WITH THE 12TH PICK OF THE 2021 DRAFT...

Patriots will beat the Jets imo so we stay ahead of them.

Broncos play the Chargers. Whoever wins joins us on 6 wins but the Broncos SOS is worse than ours, Chargers isn't.

Cowboys, Giants, Eagles would need to win their last 2 games to go ahead of us. Cowboys play both those teams.

Vikings play Lions week 17 so a Vikings win puts them ahead of us again.

Realistically we can hope the Patriots, Broncos, Vikings all fall behind us so 12th.

At best 1 of the NFC East teams pushes us to 11th but don't count on that.

Very slim chance Houston win their last 2 (Last game V Titans) and they maintain a worse SOS than us.

Aside from that you're praying for big upsets to happen or teams who have secured their spot to rest players week 17.

10th is possible but highly unlikely. 12th-15th is about where we are going to realistically be.

Which is fine too. 12-15 puts them in prime position for a CB, edge rusher, QB or potentially a center.

Nice post
You see this happen with a lot of teams in the last couple of games. They win meaningless games over teams that are fighting for a playoff. What happens is the playoff teams play tight and the lower team is loose. They also have players fighting for roster spots next year, especially on a team like SF that has a lot of free agents.

QB isn't out of the question if there's a guy Kyle likes, and if we have no intention of going QB then the QB scramble in this year's draft will push some nice players down to us.

As always, picking right is more important than where.

No s**t they don't play to lose. But they don't play to win when it counts. I'm sorry I'm pissed at a team that 4 of the last 5 years "turned it on" when games became meaningless and cost themselves or nearly cost themselves franchise changing talents (not even counting losing out on Myles Garret after the meaningless Rams). It's nearly impossible to be invested as a fan without being crushed week in and week out. I bet you're one of those fans that cheered like a little kid when Kaepernick beat the Rams - don't you just love Solomon Thomas instead of Myles Garret?

This x1000. Never been more annoyed by a win in my life. I don't see how wanting my favorite team to get a potentially franchise-altering player in an otherwise meaningless season makes someone a bad fan. What's the difference between 5-11 and 6-10? Miss me with that building momentum or showing heart stuff; I'd care about that Week 6, not Week 16. My only solace is that given the number of bad teams this season, they likely would have had to trade up for a QB anyway if they wanted one of the top guys. So this hopefully didn't hurt as much as the Garrett one.
I enjoyed the win, but have no issue with people who are annoyed with it because it's not hard to look at it from their POV and see why.

I'd probably be more annoyed at anyone who says they can't understand lol. Seriously, even if you don't agree, how can you not understand?
It is what it is. My outlook on it is that I root for the 49ers to always win no matter what AS LONG AS they are still alive for a playoff spot. Once they are eliminated, I could care less if they win or lose. I'd honestly prefer them to lose but it doesn't bother me one bit if they win. These players are playing for jobs. They aren't going to mail it in and lose on purpose. At least we have found out that Wilson Jr. is a legitimate back.

This pretty much guarantees a pick of Farley or Surtain in the first. It sucks because those are two of my least favorite prospects for the 49ers in the first. It is the same way I felt last year going into draft day with Kinlaw. Not saying he was a bad pick, I just didn't like him at 14th overall. He had/has tools but is very raw and needs time to figure it out. It may work out or it may not. I see these two corners exactly the same. They are both toolsy players with great potential but both are raw AF. Once again, that would be reaching to fill a need early in the draft. That is something that I am not a fan of.
I enjoyed the win, but I'd be lying if I said our draft pick wasn't on my mind most of the game. I'd care more if we were talking about losing out on a top 5 pick, but sliding from 9/10 to 12-15 doesn't bother me as much. Trading up for someone like Wilson was an expensive longshot anyway.

So this is what concerns you, huh?

As another poster said, it isn't where you pick, it's actually picking correctly. If we are going to play that game, I'd rather we have taken the Bears trade and picked Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahommes. But sure, enjoy your Myles Garrett.

Players don't take and coaches don't tank. You don't get to that level by going out and intentionally trying to lose games. Would I like an easier shot at the top QBs? Absolutely. But we were out of that running the moment we were 4-2. Save for Trevor Lawrence, who we never had a shot at, no one is a sure bet. I just hope we pick correctly, no matter where we land.

Even in that scenario, Garrett wasn't the best player. Not by a country mile. If there's a redraft, Mahomes goes #1. There will always be good to great players available, its just a matter of doing the work in scouting to find the guys that are most likely to succeed in your system.

It's going to be interesting to see what the brass does this off season. At this point if you want a franchise QB we are going to have to swap first rounders this year, give away next years first and third, then a first rounder the year after to move up to get ahead of other QB needy teams and high enough to grab either Wilson or Lance.

Possibly, Lance is available, but Wilson is going to be out of reach.
I get a kick out of guys who think shanny should tank lol. These guys are at the top of their profession. If they want to tank it is a good way to get fired.

Are you gonna tell Kittle "hey man don't come back from injury and if you do, tank!"

Looks like we'll be picking #15 after Sundays games.

Players aren't going to tank. Some know they aren't going to be here next year and need to put some good things on tape. Some don't think a rookie is going to come in and save their season. If you have a player willing to tank, what else are they willing to do?

Only fans believe in tanking.
