WITH THE 12TH PICK OF THE 2021 DRAFT...

Now at 12.

Only one game separates pick 13 and pick 4
49ers are slotted at #12 with teams at #3 through #13 having 4 or 5 wins, however, they have the easiest opponent next weekend against the Cowboys. Warner and Deebo went out with injuries today so it is probably a tossup. Other teams to root for to help the 49ers draft position:
4-win teams: Chargers, Panthers, Falcons, Texans, Eagles
5-win teams: Giants, Lions, Broncos
Thanks for the update

My guess is we end up with the 8th pick if we end up losing the rest of our games.

Definitely a nice spot for some action. Whether trading up or down.

Agreed. Obviously it will dictate what we are planning on doing at QB. Going to be very interesting
Good news is Sunday if we win = F*ck the Cowboys. If we lose = better draft pick

Never though I'd be rooting for draft position this time heading into this season.

We rarely get good things so my guess is we beat Dallas. Somehow find a way to squeak out a win vs Arizona and then lose to Seattle.
When/If Saleh gets hired does anyone know when the comp picks will be. Would it be 2022 and 2023 drafts or 2021 and 2022 drafts?

I think 2021 & 2022
You really have to get lucky in the draft and I'm not just talking about picking guys that end up being good.

You need to get lucky when your team has a bad year. If you have a top 5 or top 10 pick, you have to hope it happens in a year where there are good players at the positions you need to fill.

Last year the Niners got lucky when Arizona took Murray leaving Bosa for the Niners. One of their biggest needs for years and there was a terrific edge guy sitting there. The Chargers needed a new QB and Herbert fell to them. This year they are in position to possibly get Sewell to protect him.

This isn't a great year for QBs after Lawrence and maybe Fields. The other guys might end up being pretty good but probably not great. So one of our needs is probably not going to be there this year. Also not a great year for edge rushers. This may be a good year for O line and maybe that's where the Niners should concentrate. I already said I would draft Surratt if he's there because you can never have enough great LBs. He's a guy that can improve their pass defense and run defense. Also could be a pretty good year to get a DB in the 3rd or 4th round.

The Niners just have to hope that a good player that can fill a need falls to them and make sure they don't reach for guys just because they have a need at a certain position. Don't pick a guy in the 2nd round that will probably be there in the 3rd or 4th just because you're afraid some other team might get him.

I've been wondering, what does happen in the grand scheme of things IF the team goes 8-8 on the season?

I agree with your point. Lots of luck involved with the draft and when you're able to have the premium pick. That included when we had #1 overall. But sometimes drafts that don't seem great at the top end up having some of the best players in it.

Like despite at the time Alex and Rodgers not being the type of prospects we saw with Eli Manning or Mario Williams(top picks season before and after we had top pick) but looking back now Aaron Rodgers was the cream of the crop from those 3 drafts and many others.

The 2017 draft wasn't considered too strong at QB at the top despite having 3 QBs go top 15. Now Mahomes may be the best to ever play the position and Watson is a stud of his own.

It's about getting lucky and finding the right guy for your team...and having things work out with them as part of it.

Who would've thought in the draft with Luck/RG3 that the QB taken in the 3rd round would be the best in that class?

If we go QB I hope we get our Aiyuk at that position. Or any position we end up going with.

Long story short...let's kill this draft and get back to winning SBs!

If that happened, trade back and get more picks for day 2.

My immediate thought was dumbasses would be saying fire Kyle. But that's already happening

I'm convinced most of those people don't really watch or understand football. At best, they watch 49ers games only.
