Those two QB's couldn't possibly be anymore different. What a weird comparison. Coming out in the draft, Flacco's calling card was having a bazooka for an arm. What people questioned were his accuracy, his readiness to play in a pro offense, his issues going through his progressions and struggles throwing under pressure but damn that arm was ridiculous.
May as well compare Kyle Trask to Carson Palmer.
Flacco was pretty damn good for a while. After winning a Super Bowl and MVP he fell way off. I'd gladly take one Super Bowl win.
Wilson isn't worth liquidating all assets for. If he is available take him. Multiple picks is too costly.

I don't see Mac Jones as their guy...I'm not sure they'll find that guy in this draft. This QB class isn't in the same league as the 2020 draft, IMHO. Other than Lawrence, I don't see any of them being starters any time soon. Haven't looked at 2022 yet, but I'm just not that impressed with the 2021 QB class.

Jones might be the best value so they will draft him because of that. But I also think Jones moves well in the pocket better than Jimmy... but still.
Trade the farm to the Cowboys and draft Wilson.
Wilson is a better prospect ut is he a better fit?
You want to trade the farm on the potential that Wilson can master Kyle's offense. That is why alot of QBs bust. Because a guy has more arm strength or foot speed doesn't make him the perfect QB for system in which he is being drafted. I'm not saying he can't im just saying we don't know if Wilson can be that guy. Everything Mac Jones is, is almost perfect for Shanahan's offense. As it relates to QB they don't seem to go for the shiny toy.
RGIII had more potential than Kirk Cousins but it wasn't RGIII that Kyle preferred.
Johnny Manziel had more potential than Brian Hoyer but it was Manziel who forced Shannyn to quit CLE.
Kaepernick had more potential than Beathard and Homer but it wasn't Kaepernick that Shanahan chose.
Kyle Shanahan on mobile QBs:
"It gives you a huge advantage when the quarterback's a threat to run. If you have to pick one way or the other, I always feel no matter who you are, especially when you get in those playoffs, eventually a team's going to make you sit in that pocket and make you make some big throws to win a game. So, you have to have that ability, but anyone who has both always has the chance to exceed everybody.
The more you can have both, the more things you can do as an offense and the less things the defense can do just having to defend everything.
"I think there are a lot more coming up, guys who have seen guys run around and make plays and have stayed at the quarterback position their entire career, starting in Pop Warner to high school, to college. I think more offenses have incorporated a bunch of things that allow guys to develop as pocket passers, even though they're unbelievable athletes and can make plays.
I think there's more and more guys coming out who have been doing both forever. When you have that, then you've got a chance to do both and that's why you can see that the league is finding more and more of those guys."
Kyle isn't stupid. We have two mobile QBs in our division who will give us headaches for years. He doesn't believe a running QB would be wasted in this offense like it sounds like you're making the case for. Kyle is willing to incorporate that aspect into our offense it just has to be someone who can also throw from the pocket like I believe Wilson can.
I agree with you that so far his philosophy so far hasn't tailored towards mobile QBs but I think that's going to change very soon.

When Kyle thinks of the perfect mobile QB, this is what he imagines
Mac Jones + Corey Linsley 2021

Trade down in draft. Give Packers a better pick and take their 3rd string QB off their hands. Jordan Love is mobile, has a strong arm, and still on a rookie contract for 4 more years. Draft offensive lineman towards end of first round. Preferably Alijah Vera-Tucker or another interior offensive lineman

Are the packers trading Love one year after drafting him in the first round? Why?

Aaron Rodgers is signed for 3 more yrs after this yr. Almost all Packers were baffled by them drafting love. Rodgers will finally get a rec/te that he's been asking for. Makes sense for both teams

This goes back to Krizay's point.
Are people just throwing Ridder out there because he's a name that has gotten some hype out there?
Because I don't see a guy who fits into this offense AT ALL. I see another version of Kaepernick with similar con's but without the same freakish arm talent and athleticism. Still a one speed thrower with an elongated delivery that doesn't have great pocket presence, athletic enough but not elusive in the way of Wilson or Kyler Murray. Takes off running at times for zero damn reason. Accuracy is all over the place, especially on shorter throws. He's just kind of blah to me. If you draft that guy, you'd better be running a chuck and duck style offense ala Bruce Arians or he'll be wasted.
IMO, if you're going to draft a QB, draft your QB, don't just draft a QB because you need one and a guy that was heavily hyped is just hanging around there. That is how you wind up with EJ Manuel,Connor Cook and Paxton Lynch.
Beathard is gone and Ridder will simply push Jimmy... I'm not saying Ridder is the savior but I still believe Jimmy can be serviceable for next season. This last win F'd us royally in the QB hunt and I'm going to assume we will win another 2 games minimum, Wilson will be a top 8 pick and Jones will be a top 12 pick... I'd love both but I'm also being realistic about the cost to make that happen with picks... picks we need to fill holes in the secondary and O-line and with the Cap falling that only makes it even harder. Totally see what you're saying but we will need to pick a developmental QB in either scenario and Ridder has enough tools and athleticism that he could play after a season or two of journey man status.

Why would they draft a QB that isn't a good fit for the offense to start with? They don't need someone to "push" Jimmy, they need someone who could credibly replace him and Ridder aint it. He is pretty much the exact opposite of everything that Shanahan prioritizes in a quarterback.
Also there's no real good chance that Jones goes Top 12. He's a nice QB prospect but he's not a physically elite QB talent who goes that high. NFL teams will continue giving him the side eye and doubting him no matter what he does due to the talent around him. He's a 2nd rounder right now IMO and if he balls out and wins a NC then I could see him maybe going in the back third of the first round.

If they are looking to inevitable replace Garoppolo then we need to draft one as high as possible and hope he can play at a high level immediately--not sure I see Mahomes in the list of QBs here. Like it or not, Garoppolo is our best chance right now. We should instead focus on bolstering the team around him to both maximize our current window and have a strong team as we transition to a successor eventually. O-line or D-line seem like good targets in RD 1...no guarantee Bosa is himself ever again, let alone on day one next season, Dee Ford will be gone and our interior o-line (and RT) arent doing too well.

I mean we thought the same thing with Jeudy at WR as well. Quick fit, separates, runs crisp routes...he passed on him.
It will be interesting to see how kyle has changed in evaluating. I do remember him loving Carr who's someone I comp to Wilson...Wilson has a bigger arm and is a little more athletic though.
