2021 LBs

Huge fan of Surratt, he'd be absolutely perfect for this defense. He's got the prerequisite athleticism and football IQ to make him a stud here.

He could be used to rush the passer or drop into coverage. That was one of the few areas that stayed relatively healthy this season but there's no question they are thin at that position. If Warner went down they would have a huge hole in the defense.

I second that!
Would love Surratt, but he will be gone by day 2 and the Niners have more pressing needs elsewhere. Like two bigger dudes to play SLB in Charles Snowden (6'7" 235 lbs) from Virginia and Kuony Deng (6'6'' 250 lbs) from Cal early on day 3 if they are available.

You're probably right, but if the player they targeted is gone when they pick in round 2 and Surratt has slipped back for some reason, I would take him rather than reach for a QB. That's assuming they got a guard or center in the first round.

Dude, what the hell? Those guys are way too tall to play stack LB in the league. Even Fred Warner at slightly under 6'4" struggles to maintain leverage in run fits.

If the Niners draft a stack LB, it'll be on day 3. They don't need to waste resources for SLB, a position that plays 5 snaps max a game.

Point taken. Who else would fit the bill for you? Would it be someone like Malcolm Koonce or Patrick Johnson who are also capable of generating pressure as a pass rusher? Or would you add another Dre Greenlaw/Fred Warner clone as a LB/S type hybrid? Just know that the Niners need some depth at this position and likely won't want to invest in it till day 3.

If Saleh is still here next season, this is exactly what they'll do since all three stack LB positions are interchangeable.

However, if Saleh leaves, we have no idea what will happen. We could get a DC that changes things up.

I think we need another pure interior backer.

Green law plays better on the outside IMO.

Surratt would be so perfect due to his versatility, but someone like Paddy Fisher could fill that role behind Warner.
I really like Surratt..only knock is how narrow he is in his lower half. Won't be available where we look to draft LB anyway.

Some other names:
Baron Browning, tOSU
Jabrill Cox, LSU
Pete Werner, tOSU

Jahad Woods, WSU
Ventrell Miller, Florida
Nick Niemann, Iowa
Crazy how quickly Micah Parsons has gone from a top 5 prospect, to potentially dropping to the end of the 1st round. Maybe the "Reuben Foster" effect. News coming out about character concerns, a brutal fight with a teammate back in 2018 that the coaches tried to cover up, and some concerns about his passion for football.

And also that he's not a top 2 linebacker in this class. That kid from Notre Dame is real nice.

Jeramiah Owusu-Koramoah is that "do it all" linebacker that is proving to be real valuable in today's NFL. Nick Bolton is shooting up draft boards, as well.
Merlin Robertson is a favorite of mine. He had a very special freshman year and kinda plateaued after that, but looked like a very solid piece on a pretty good defense.
