At this point I'm more confident in drafting a rookie and either trading or cutting Jimmy G with his what?.... 2.8m cap hit?
Cap experts let me know if this is wrong. We'd be adding a little over 21m to our cap if we let Jimmy walk.
We need that to pay Trent Williams and Kyle Juscyck.
Not drafting a QB in the first is going to hurt our offensive line even more than if we drafted one to fix it.
I really like Jimmy but he has to be gone this offseason.

This...it's common sense.
When you're in a position to get a FQB and you don't have one nothing takes precedent over that.
They can also use that freed up $50M (over the next 2 yrs) to upgrade OL.
Nope. It ain't going to happen. You and the other Webzone GMs are going to be very frustrated around draft time in February.

We need a good C + McGlinchey with 20 pounds more and the O-line will be at least average in pass-pro.
Plan A: Zach Wilson
Plan B: Trade our 1st for Stafford.
Plan C: Trade down and get Mac Jones.
How about no.
You're not sending a top 10/15 pick for a 33 year old QB with a lot of wear and tear. If the Lions are moving on it shouldn't take that much.
And don't bring up the Vikings sending a 1st for Sam Bradford considering they were desperate and stupid.

They save almost $50M over the next 2 yrs, which can be used to frame contracts this yr.
There literally isn't another contract in the league that frees up more cap space in 2021 then Jimmy's.

We all know how much you love Jimmy and think he can take a below avg roster and win a bunch of games...you'll find a lot of people that will disagree with that.
One thing that should be discussed and even the Jimmy lovers need to acknowledge it...he CAN NOT play 2021 on his current cap hit. If you think he's the man then an extension or restructure should be what you're talking about, basically guaranteeing his in SF for 2+ yrs.
Financials in 2021 and how to maintain and god forbid upgrade across the roster HAVE to be discussed. There's isn't a single football player in the league that allows their team to SAVE more money than Jimmy's deal.

Honestly, both.
But, this will be answered well before the draft as they'll need to cut/trade Jimmy first.
If they do, you know it's QB first. If not, it's still 50/50 and BPA.
A top C probably won't come from the draft knowing Kyle's preference for veteran C's given the added responsibility on calling pass protection sets (not the QB).

I would be all for drafting a QB if there was someone like Herbert or Burrows sitting there when our turn rolled around. Unfortunately, the drop off is pretty steep after the first couple picks. If we end up picking 10th, it's going to be a tough decision for Shannylynch. If they can't renegotiate Jimmy's contract they'll be forced into taking a QB or art least trading for one. I would probably prefer redoing his contract and taking an O lineman or a DB at 10. That spot gets you one of the top linemen DB instead of a question mark QB. Jimmy's contract is going to have one of the biggest effects on the draft that any player has had in recent years.

You lose out and trade up for Lawerence that's what you do. Out of all the QB's that played yesterday he again showed why he's light years above the rest. Fk he's good!

He is really good but to trade up to the No 1 is incredibly expensive and likely impossible. Why should the Jets trade the pick?

If we win the super bowl not one person complains about the trade

I don't think the Niners have enough draft capital to move up to #1. If the Jets let it be known that they were open to trades there are other teams with more picks to trade. The Niners would need to give up their #1 for the next 3 years and maybe more.

Can't trade him unless he agrees to it in 2021.

Exactly. He's older but still playing at a high level, enough to give you a shot at a SB for a few years. If they win, no one gives a crap about what it cost to land a true franchise QB.
