Landon Dickerson, Center, Alabama

I'm rewatching the SEC championship, a) because I'm up with the baby, and b) as I wanted a closer look at Landon & Pitts.

Only a qtr in, but he's so freaking good, always on the right side of his man on zone concepts (mostly inside zone so easier, but still great) solid as a rock in pass pro (would like some input on the Florida DT's though if anyone can hook me up).

Even has those reps where they don't bother to challenge him, always finds work.

Favourite play, was double teaming a DT with his LG on a run play, LB came shooting through the hole, Landon releases and picks him up, pancaking him for Najee to pick up good yardage. Stud

He's easily OC1....until you see the injury history, unfortunately

I know, and I get it especially with our history, but this guy is so good we might have to take a chance.

Frank Ragnow is the best Center prospect I've watched in the Shanny era, well until now.

I don't think I've seen someone this big move well enough for Shanny, I think this is the guy.
Ideally I'd like to trade back in the 2nd, and trade up from our 3rd comp pick, trying to get in a good zone to draft Dickerson or Meinerz.
If this guy falls to us in the 2nd I would be through the roof. Think we would have to move up if we want him though. Maybe all the way to the late first.

Interesting

Interesting

I think he does, the ceiling for a C/G prospect is mid 1st, but normally in the 20's, factor in a drop for the medical fed flags and he should be there.

The risk is real, I watched the play he got injured on about 10 times, it's unfortunate as he was burying the guy who then tried to flip him, but there shouldn't have been enough to cause the ACL tear IMO.

I was expecting him to get rolled up on.

The positive is that he's clearly shown an ability to rehab quickly and return at a high level, but that gets harder with age (speaking from experience!)

I'm not moving up, but I think our 2nd is about right for the risk vs the reward.

If he falls to us we shouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. Freaking baller. I hate drafting injury guys but sometimes you just have to say f it lets go. This is our best option. Watching how he picks up blitzes and goes through his run reads is fun.

His game is super similar to Quentin Williams to me.

Well, if we draft him you all have to promise not to moan if/when he gets injured!

I'd love to see what NC feels about this

We all know about his infatuation with OL (especially IOL). We all know how much he can't stand drafting/signing injured guys....Landon when healthy is the best IOL by a wide margin in this draft. He's also got a grocery list of injuries.

When does injures outweigh the lust to draft an IOL with top end talent ...where's the line

Don't know. I want a rejigged O line as a top priority, but an O line more than other groups has to play together and get used to each other. I have no idea if this guy is worth the risk.

Not to mention it would be a lot of fun watching him go against the DL talent in the NFCW like Donald, Brockers, Reed, Phillips, etc.
How many injuries is too many with what this team just went through last year and for the last two decades?

The biggest concern with Dickerson is durability. His redshirt junior season (2019) is the only year where he's been able to finish a season healthy from start to finish. He's sustained a laundry list of injuries: torn right ACL (Nov. 2016), ankle surgery (Oct. 2017), ankle injury (2018), ligament damage to left knee (Dec. 2020).

Look at his scouting reports, too.

Although a below-average athlete, he wins with acceleration out of his stance by latching on quickly and not allowing matchups to detach. At his best when asked to stay within a controlled environment that hardly ever exceeds the B gaps, he's constantly looking for work on either side.

Doesn't sound like a good fit for own zone blocking scheme.

Much rather take someone else.

Nah, can't believe everything you read, he's a fit, they've just assumed he's slow because he's huge, he's got great feet , they have plenty of zone concepts and he's always on the right leverage of his man.

I watched the SEC championship game and focussed on him, he got beat once, missed one cut off in the run game and had one ineffective run block.

3 negative plays for the whole game! Every other one was a win. I haven't seen an OL like that since Quinton Nelson. For me he's a top 10 talent.

Now positional value would have put him in the 20's and the injury history will push him much further. The question would be at what point it becomes great value.

I forgot to mention that everyone raves about his character, you could see how much he meant to his teammates both when he went down, and when he took the final snap in the Natty (3 weeks after ACL surgery). He also made every snap of Mac's Pro day (and moved around). Watch them and see how many other Centers do them, and they are healthy, this guy is special.

#43 is probably too rich for me, but if we move around I'd love it at the end of Round 2.
I dont see any really great fits at OC in this class, unless Vera-Tucker can take over at OC down the road.
