Jaelan Phillips-EDGE-Miami

I thought he'd be longer, but those are some damn good times.

Agreed. I've always thought he was worth the risk in the 2nd. If it wasn't for those risks this guy would be coming off the board in the top 10.
Call me a fool for counting his athleticism twice, but man I'm such a sucker for supremely athletic edge rushers. I'd he falls to late first, I'd try to trade up. I know I know, I'm on record saying he's undraftable. Argh, the conflict.

Don't see how he falls to the second. I know the injury concerns are big, but some team will just take a chance in late first, to have a top 10 talent. He reminds me of a more athletic, less crafty version of Bosa who is aggressive and good in run defense with good football iq and a relentless motor (see Brett Kollman's video). The fact that this draft class is extremely thin on edge rushers, someone will take a chance on a player of his caliber.

LOL im on the same boat. I basically took him out of my draft board, but he looked so damn smooth out there. Having Warner and Bosa on his side could help really get the best out of him.

I can guarantee you he's not on some teams 1st round draft boards because of his medicals. Many conservative execs just won't take a chance on potentially throwing away a 1st or early 2nd on a guy that is 1 blow away from early retirement. With no 1st for the next couple years, I hope we aren't one of those teams.

Multiple concussions is a serious problem. But I just think his talent makes it a worthwhile risk. It's not a position where concussions are as big of a risk.. You usually think about higher velocity impact positions where those are happening a lot. WR, DB, TE, special teams. Of course you can get a concussion at any position. There might be something in the way that Phillips plays that is increasing his risk of a concussion that could be fixed. There might also be a medical issue that makes them more likely as well. Just the work you need to do before the draft to identify that.

This is sooo incorrect. It's how he got there in the first place rofl.

If you've ever played end, a lot of tackles use a headbutt technique in their pass sets. You're getting your bell rung weekly. Joe Staley was really good at this. Not to mention squatty running backs coming at you.

This. Playing on the line is probably more dangerous than playing WR and other skill positions where you see guys get laid out. You're talking about non stop collisions all game when playing in the trenches.

Yup. Was just gonna say. That's why they call it the "trenches".

I remember my helmet was always nicked up playing o-line and end.

Just isnt right. If only.....
We've no major needs, so we are one of only a handful of teams that can afford to take a punt on him if he's there in the second. If it works out, we've drafted an elite pass rusher in the 2nd, if not we still have an incredibly strong team.

Doubt hes there in the 2nd unless teams are seriously worried about the concussions.
