Its not just the Combine, its team meetings with players at the Combine, at their facilities and extended 1 on 1 time just getting a read on these guys. I expect a whole lot more whiffs than usual.

You mean you're having trouble believing the numbers coming out of an event put on by people who are being paid directly by the players and their agents? Stop being so paranoid.

I can remember when there wasn't a combine and teams just relied on their scouts. It seemed to work about the same and maybe better. The teams with good scouts had a bigger advantage. Now everyone has the same info. There were just as mant busts and surprises as there are now.

The part about getting into a players head and finding what's going on upstairs is crucial to placement on draft boards, and it's something that can only happen with in person interviews. A guy might have incredible measurements but looking at the tape and numbers doesn't tell you what's going on inside, and as we have seen in our recent drafts that's critical!

As phoenix says, there's going to be a lot of whiffs in this years drafts, and I agree with him on that. And because of the uncertainty of the scouting process, I'd really think about trading down if I was the 49er front office - specially on offense where Kyle - just by his eye can pick out good RB's and WR's. Kyle *should* be able to clean up on the offensive side (i.e. be able to see the gems and get them at a lower price) because of all the other front offices whiffing on their picks.
