What is the best use of our 2021 first round draft pick?

Haha, no doubt!!!!!!!!!
Biggest Need
  • Slot CB - K'Waun likely departure. However, there is good quality in rounds 2 thru 4
  • Edge - Ebukam is probably the Blair replacement. Still need to replace Dee.
  • WR - unclear #3
Depth or Future Needs
  • QB - Need a franchise-QB-in-queue behind Jimmy
  • C/OG - Mack, Brunskill, and Tomlinson in final year of contract
  • TE - need a #2
  • Mike LB - if we can't resign Warner

In my mind, most likely in absence of trade is
  • Round 1 - one of the three WRs is there at 12 (Smith?)
  • Round 2 - grab the best edge
  • Round 3 - grab a CB
BPA.
there should be either a great WR prospect or Kyle Pitts at 12. If we don't sign any WRs in free agency, I could see us going in this direction.

It's funny it's easy to say BPA with a poll like this, having no idea how the board will actually look, but when it actually gets to our pick and whoever we choose I can almost guarantee half the people in here aren't gonna think that guy was the BPA lol
Trade down with WFT to pick up an additional 2nd Rd pick. RT Vera-Tucker might be available. If not take next best tackle. 2nd rd. #43 pick up Ronnie Perkins. 2nd pick #51 pick a CB ( newsome or stokes) they go TE in 3rd rd. Brevin Jordan will be available with a trade up. If not Jordan maybe LB Chazz Surratt . Predicting the draft is all hopes. Some GMs go way outside the box

Yup. I may be crazy, but I've actually been wondering about taking a top dynamic RB. I know the position is devalued and Kyle's system makes any RB good, but imo putting a real star there would be insanity for this offense.

Again, a pipe dream based on their draft history, but imagine Etienne or Harris in this offense. Would also help a rebuilding defense like we will have next season etc. We could probably even trade down a couple times and snag him.

I love Najee, and Etienne is a perfect scheme fit, but I just can't get behind a 1st (or even 2nd) round RB for Shanny, he just does too much with the position on the cheap.

Talent wise Najee could be top of the list though so I see where you're coming from.

Guard has always been undervalued by Shanny, but that even might take a slight bump, you need to be cheap some places or you can't hope to keep all your important players.
im all for defense

i think we can get a pass rush EDGE specialist in the mid rounds

we need CB and SS

Hoping for Fields, Farley, Slater, or D. Smith/Pitts
You just get this feeling they will take a QB
Unless we sign a Mitchel Trubisky type the more its looking like they will be trading up for a QB. They've already said they need to upgrade the backup QB position and the backup QBs in free agency are dwindling.

I agree.

I think they are gunning for a QB high in the draft (not free agency). Jimmy is just too unreliable from a health standpoint to simply stand pat on the QB position. Trading for a QB is too expensive from a draft capital point of view. They know if Jimmy was healthy all of last season, even with all the *other* injuries, they would have probably made the playoffs.

They don't want another 2020 season, and one way to avoid that is a strong backup QB as a reserve to when Jimmy is out for a significant part of the season.

This is the year to do it too if you like one of the top 5 guys. I'm not going to count Wilson or Lawrence but Fields, Lance, and Mac could all be in play.

Of course if they don't they should just keep loading that defense up.
The more i think about it, I think 49ers will trade up to get a QB. Here are my odds of who they will draft:
Justin Fields 2 - 1
Mac Jones 5 - 1
Trey Lance 10 - 1
Zach Wilson 20 - 1
Trevor Lawrence 1,000,000 - 1

Jets will take Zach at #2 so price will be too steep. Fields most likely can be had at #4. Jones will be there are #12 and Lance 50/50 chance he'll be there at #12. I think Lynch would take Jones over Lance, but my prediction is the trade-up for Fields.
