2021 Reese's Senior Bowl

Mods, can we move this whole conversation to the Mac Jones thread please?

Just a limited ceiling imo. Already maxed out and that matters. Especially at 12th overall

Maxed out after 17 career starts. Ok
It doesnt mean he has a limited ceiling just because he doesn't have a cannon and wheels.

You say he's maxed out. So I assume you think the other 4 have room to grow. What exactly can the other 4 improve on that Jones cannot or doesn't need to(not sure how to interpret your maxed out)?

Your statement could be interpreted as Jones is already has the most essential traits a QB needs and the others need to learn/adopt those traits.

Just not sure exactly what you mean by maxed out I guess. What is your interpretation?

Maxed out what you see is what you get at this point.

He's not gonna become a better athlete, he's not gonna get a new arm put on his body, he already has a great feel for coverages and going through reads...the mental side (which is what he needs to be amazing at because of other limitations) is pretty darn good.

You can interpret that however you want (which you will because of who you like). I do not believe he has some other level or tier that he can become, much like a lot of Bama players.

These other QBs have more elite traits and the mental side isn't at the level of Jones (that can be learned). I wouldn't say they had the coaching or talent around them either. Bama is on another level there.

Is what it is. We will agree to disagree... back to the senior bowl

So what's he got to get better at from a mental aspect? explain what's he suck at there? What can he improve on? We've already established he doesn't have an elite level arm (not even close) and his lack of athletic ability isn't gonna magically get better surrounded by even more athletic players. It's not like Jones is some untapped potential QB with a high ceiling. He like a lot of Bama players are (coming into the league) pretty much ready to go (and maxed out)...that's good and bad.

Only thing that's gonna change is he's not gonna have another tier of talent and coaching around him compared to the competition. I'm not saying he blows, I'm saying compared to the other rookie QBs the ceiling isn't there and that matters.

reading some good things about Wisconsin-Whitewater OG/C Quinn Meinerz

Without looking at the logo on the helmet, it can be pretty easy to spot the non-FBS prospects at the Senior Bowl because they aren't used to this level of competition. But Wisconsin-Whitewater OG/C Quinn Meinerz looked like he belonged on day one. Frequently going up against Washington DT Levi Onwuzurike (the top defensive lineman in Mobile), the Division III product held his own with a well-timed punch and outstanding leverage, playing lower than the rent on a burning building. I wasn't blown away by his 2019 tape, but Meinerz looked more powerful and effective at practice as he learns how to use his body.

Dane Brugler's day one observations...everyone was praising Eskridge.

I wrote about Western Michigan's Dwayne Eskridge in my Senior Bowl preview as a player who could become this year's Senior Bowl "riser" like Terry McLaurin two years ago, and he didn't disappoint in the first practice.

On his tape, Eskridge looks like he is moving at a different speed than everyone else in the Mid-American Conference. And it was more of the same against better competition here. Cornerbacks struggled to press and contain him at the line of scrimmage as Eskridge used his suddenness and well-timed swipes to release and quickly get the upper hand. He hits his top speed with his second step and also showed remarkable start-stop quickness mid-route, leaving defenders out of position and off-balance.

Aside from his athletic gifts, Eskridge caught everything thrown his way with quick, strong hands to snatch away from his frame. He debuted at No. 76 overall on my top-100 draft board and with his separation skills and pass-catching ability, I don't have any regrets about ranking him that high. It is going to be a tough week of practice for the cornerbacks on the National squad as they try and stick with Eskridge one-on-one.

Man there's some solid WRs here, this class is stocked! Tylan Wallace is another guy that is showing up...he played in a spread offense at OSU so he wasn't asked to run a full route tree. Just watching his clips from yesterday he most certainly can run more than a go route and a slant lol.

He can separate and we already know he can track the deep balls. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a SF Jersey.

Haven't gotten the chance to watch Eskridge much, but he's definitely one of the guys to look out for. It's tough for me to watch every prospect like I used to, so sometimes I have to limit the amount of film I can take in and pair that with some analytical stuff I do on prospects to create the grades I do for them.

Eskridge looks awesome in one on ones, and by the numbers, he ranked top 5 in the nation in yards per game and yards per catch. Analytics suggest he is one of the top deep threats in this class.

Another receiver who popped off the analytics was Jaelon Darden. He did not get to showcase his abilities at the Shrine Bowl since it was cancelled. He ranked #3 in the nation in yards/game and #1 in the nation in scoring at a whopping 2.1 TDs/game. He brings extra versatility and value as a returner as well.

Big week for Alaric. It wasn't that long ago where he was being touted as a future 1st rounder. Could be a steal in the 4th.

Yup I saw a bunch of analytic stats about Jaelon Darden...very intriguing. I haven't gotten to watch as much college ball as I usually do (wasn't as much to watch lol).

There's some real quality WRs in this draft and we have a bunch of day three picks to find a gem.

Agreed, Not sure how much he can improve after being a 4 yr starter in Iowa. I think at worst you have a backup swing tackle. Maybe he can play inside where he's got more help? His hands need more work though.

LOL Heisman candidate, best deep ball among the top QBs, accurate, extremely intelligent, good pocket awareness. Yeah, let's pass on that

That's what I was reading online, as well. That strength could be real valuable inside with the help of an athletic tackle.
