Caleb Farley - Cornerback - Virginia Tech

Couldn't find a thread, and I think that is criminal. Why has no one been high enough on this guy to start a thread? What am I missing? Guy seems to have everything, from size to speed to production, and we need a corner, outside of sitting out this year. I'm starting to consider this guy at 12. What's your take on him?

Edit with some info I have found:

PROS:
Elite size at 6'2 and length.
Appears to be a 4.3 speed guy with a 5th gear to catch up. Someone who can run with DK Metcalf
Initially was going to play wide receiver until he got hurt, and in 23 games he had 6 interceptions displaying playmaking skills.
PFF gave him a 90.5 coverage grade in 2019. He forced 10 incompletions while only allowing 9 first downs.
Seems to have good character from the few interviews I've watched.

CONS:
This is why he will drop.....

Torn ACL in 2017 and a back injury that required surgery in 2019. Just typing that out has him sliding a little in my book. Only has one season of dominant tape before sitting out last year for covid. He sat out for Covid because he didn't want to risk losing his father after losing his mother. He came to this realization after being in the practice facility with about 100 people huddled up without masks.
Small sample size with only one good season on tape coming from 2019
Not the strongest tackler, but had 56 tackles over 2 years. I doubt his back injury will help him improve at the next level.

Has shown he can be a high upside man coverage guy, but will need to improve in zone. Little tight in the hips but that is expected from someone of his height.

Overall

My opinion is he could have a Patrick Peterson ceiling and an Akhello Witherspoon floor. Upon initially starting this post, I was hyping this guy up for the 12th pick. After doing a little more research, my opinion of him has dropped a little due to injury concerns. He has eye popping traits and potential, but is more of a risk than a Patrick Surtain and Jaycee Horn. This guy has high risk and high reward written all over him. Right now, the best draft comp I have for him is Greedy Williams. He was projected as a 1st rounder by many and inevitably fell to the 2nd round.

If we traded down, I would love to take him.

I'm starting to feel comfortable taking him at 12 and over Surtain. Surtain seems to be a better tackler, but Farley has that sweet speed.

Perhaps it would be helpful if you explained in greater detail what you like about him, maybe provided some examples. This time of year we have a lot of folks popping in that may not be as familiar with the draft and various prospects. The more info you provide, the more useful the thread becomes to them.

Caleb Farley was so good the year prior that if QBs just spiked the ball rather than threw the ball against him they would have a higher QBR.

using the sideline as another safety like a seasoned vet

working on it. Came here to see how the board was feeling and saw no post. Been watching him for about 30 mins. Just watching some more before forming a complete and more informed opinion. Will follow up shortly

Just don't see Lynch using a 1st on a cb when his philosophy is a great pass rush will make the secondary better. 2nd rd or 3rd probably

I seriously doubt the Niners get him if they trade down. In fact, the vast majority of mocks have him going in the top 10 with Denver a likely landing spot. If the Niners lose Verrett and Williams in free agency he could very well be the pick if he is available.

Sorry buddy you mean trade up right....
I hate watching CB's without All-22, but still want to do a bit of Farley, really want to watch the whole Miami game at least, watching Rousseau and Brevin Jordan as well.

I'm out on Surtain, I think he's a fine player who will improve our secondary room, but if I'm spending a top 20 pick on a CB I want an eraser.

Farley has at least shown this ability. I'm skeptical though, why didn't he come and compete this year? Was he scared of lowering his stock? Does he think he didn't need the extra reps?

Also having tackling issues in college is a red flag, especially at his size, is he going to be liability?

I'm pretty certain the CB's go 9 & 10. If not as it stands I'm Fields, Wilson, Pitts then would be a toss up between Farley and Lance, probably landing Lance.
