Someone is gonna get a steal after this news came out.

All micro diseconomies start as outpatient unless the person was in a car wreck or lost bowel control. Before I would even consider him I would need to see his MRI pre and post surgery. He had a micro disectomy ( typically removal of bulging disc touching his nerve) which means he needed a laminectomy which shaves part of the bones to get access. Depending on how bad his symptoms were (loss of feeling in extremities) would also tell you how long recovery will take. Dee Ford had this surgery, same with JJ Watt, Tiger Woods. They all needed multiple attempts too. I would not spend first round draft capital on the hope he can play this year given the typical recovery timeline.

I do have experience in this subject having read extensively and going through it personally to recover physically. It's a potentially multi year process. Most will be able to walk normally (if it's lower back) in a few weeks. The nerve takes months to heal, so I wouldn't expect him in a weight room doing heavy squats or deadlifts, contact on the field is another story.

Hard pass for me, Baalke says go but he loves projects.

Great info man. Farley is a hard pass for me as well. This draft is pretty damn deep at CB and he isn't worth the risk at all.

I work in the field, and any surgery to the back is never as simple as anyone would make it seem. Major major red flag for me.
I wish SF could sign every player the "experts" have us drafting.

Glad we didn't draft Brady Quinn a few years ago

Definite NO on this one. I work directly in the field of Orthopedic Spine. Would absolutely not touch this player, especially with our team's injury luck/history.

The fact that he needs this surgery after missing a year of football is simply too concerning. I would have to pass.

Maybe his back issues cause him to drop to 2nd round, where maybe we can take a chance on him.

No. Sorry. Can't do it anymore. I want multiple rookie contributors.

If you can't take a top 10 talent falling to the 2nd round, you'll never have success.

It's all about risk/reward. I don't like it when we take injury risk guys near where they're projected, but if you're getting over a round's worth of a discount you've got to look at taking a swing.

Agree. Gimme Newsome, Campbell, Stokes, or Melifonwu in R2. St. Juste, Gowan, Mukuamu, Joseph, or Pinnock in R3 or later.
He was turning in to my draft crush until the back surgery news broke . . . now

I'm done with rookie all IR team. We need bodies in the games. Lattimore, Streets, Tank Carradine, Smelter all 1st round talents we gambled on that would be steals.

Completely agree with you on this, I love this class and will be dumbfounded if we don't dip into it given our need for CBs and quality of the class.
