D'Ante Smith-OT/OG-East Carolina

I've been keeping an eye on Smith for awhile, he's a 3rd to mid 4th round prospect that I think after some developing and coaching-up has a shot at being a very good starting OL in the NFL at either tackle or guard. He's a really great fit for this scheme, outstanding athleticism and movement ability, had a very good week at the Senior Bowl, holding his own against higher level competition.

Smith credits high school wrestling for helping him unlock his skills and develop his temperament, toughness and balance. With his eager hands, he has the tools to answer either quickness or power, but his placement and angles could be more disciplined. Overall, Smith needs to sharpen his technique, but he is an ascending offensive line prospect with outstanding tools (feet, length, flexibility) and upside to see immediate NFL playing time and grow into a long-term starter.

Damn, look at those feet. I was wondering who was the guy that owned Roche in the drills. Looks like he's a bit of a lunger, tho. Dude needs to sit back and use every bit of those 35+" arms instead of lunging.

So many good OL in the mid rounds this year has me thinking it's one position we can probably cross OFF our potential picks at 12–provided of course that we keep big Trent. Man that's gonna be a relief when it gets done 🤞🏼

sure seems like we can spend a day two pick and another on day three, and probably nab a couple of really solid prospects to add to that group (and possibly take that starting RG spot)

They changed OL coaches nearly every single year he was at ECU. He really just needs some consistency and someone to work with him on the fundamentals. I think he could step in at guard fairly early on in a zone heavy scheme. Know anyone who runs one of those?
I really like D'Ante Smith as a prospect overall. My only concern is his injury history. But other than that I like everything about him. Perfect fit for KS's system. Wouldn't be mad at all if we pick him up in the 4th or 5th if he drops that far which I doubt he will.
Nice one Phoenix, this is exactly the type of prospect we should have been drafting from year 1, raw with all the tools to play in our system, develop them up and start a pipeline.

Oh well, it's not too late to start.
He looks scrawny at 305. I wonder how much more he can carry and still move like that. 20 more pounds at least.

First look here but damn. Ok.
Yes yes yes! Watch his film during senior bowl practices, he was handling defenders left and right! I would LOVE it if we drafted him!
