Khalil Herbert-RB-Virginia Tech

Have a feeling that this is someone that the 49ers will be all over during the draft process. Virginia Tech's pro day is in a couple of weeks and I expect him to be a major point of interest for them, especially if they've been tracking Pooka Williams, Herbert's former backfield mate at Kansas. The one thing that really jumps out at you is his vision, he's quick at identifying the cutback, explodes and powers through contact, able to consistently pick up yards after contact. He doesn't have insane athleticism but accelerates quickly when he sees an opening, not a lot of wasted movement or dancing around.

Minuses are that he wasn't particularly remarkable prior to this season, just a guy that looked like he'd be a UDFA at best. He doesn't have much experience as a receiver and stands to improve as a pass blocker.

A lot of his running style reminds me of Doug Martin when he was playing back in college. Not the same level of talent obviously but still someone with the ability to contribute in the right offense. He's not really a feature back type but a solid carries eater in a scheme like this as well as a useful asset down near the goal line.

Great 49ers gift ideas

I think he's a 3rd round pick.

Day three pick, but would be a good value.

He's a mid rounder

would be perfect for KS, really like him
6th round pick like Mitchell.

I said in another thread, he's been really good for Chicago... suprisingly excellent vision, power, pad level, quickness and a little 'oomph'... it's been a small sample size, but I've seen enough. Quality NFL starter.
Another shoutout to you guys who spotted him. He's a really good back... Montgomery might not get his job back.
Imagine drafting a RB before day 3.

Imagine instead of Sermon and Ambry Thomas they had wound up with Joe Staley trained Spencer Brown, Nate Hobbs who has been balling as a rookie CB and Herbert.

Definitely wont. This guy was insane. No chance arm tackling this guy. You got to get in front of him and completely wrap him up, and even then...
