49ers acquire No. 3 pick in 2021 NFL draft from Miami

Wow! What makes you think that? Fields would have been a Day 2 pick stepping out of High School if the rules allowed it.
This trade scares the bleep out of me. Giving up 2 future 1st round picks (and a swap this year) puts awful lot of pressure on the Team to make a GREAT selection here.
Personally, I don't see the #3 QB in this years Draft worth that big of a gamble. Trevor Lawrence? Yes. Zach Wilson? Probably.
Any of the others are a risk to me. I know that everybody wants somebody that can use their feet in order to extend a play if it breaks down. It is nice, and I agree that if 2 prospects are equal otherwise, it's a great skill to have.
I'd rather have somebody who can rapidly process the Defensive scheme and make the correct read. I don't want another QB who has great physical skills and can run great - but can't get beyond the first read. Been there, done that.

Do any of the QB's who will likely be available at #3 have that skill? I know that it's tough to know if any of them will be able to that at an NFL level, and some "MAY" develop that way under good Coaching in the right system, but just don't see that skill set in any of the others. Fields makes me nervous about being ready to rapidly make progressive reads through an NFL Defensive Scheme. I don't think Jones is mobile enough for today's NFL. There's not enough film on Trey Lance against good competition to really get a good read on him.

Good Luck ShanaLynch!

The Future success of the 9ers for the next 5-8 years is likely riding on your choice.

Not sure why Fields is getting ruled out in this scenario.

Not way he should be ruled out, but it is odd to make the move before Fields pro day. Dont you want to see him in person first if he is the guy? Couldn't wait 4 days on the deal? We've already been with Wilson and Lance.

Pro days for QBs are pretty pointless, even in pandemic mode. They already know Fields is going to run fast and complete a bunch of imaginary passes. They've made their evaluation. I have a hunch it's Fields with all the grit he showed. Exciting times, though.
So....who's going to start the rumors that Lawrence is on meth?

wait what!?!? Come on man that's a straight ESPN hot take right there, like BigMac said Fields has been tied to the hip of Lawrence since HS and both would be picked in the top 64 picks coming out of HS if this were the NBA. I have no doubt that the niners are taking Fields unless the Jets take him at #2, if we take Jones at #3 I will wait for the Webzones servers to come back and cry laughing... the draft can't get here soon enough for me as usual
Wow

I dont disagree about the pro day. It's just odd to me 4 days before it. I'm sure Fields will looks great in shorts and can hit unguarded WRs. But still...wouldn't be the first guy to get injured running a 40. Will be interesting to see if he shuts it down and avoids work outs assuming he has some assurances.

same people digging through Wilson's 9th grade text messages.
What if the Jets don't pick a QB and decide to take Sewell of Slater to give him pass protection? I doubt it but I've seen crazier stuff happen on draft day.

Lol. Call it what you want to call it. 3-1=2 right!?
Lmao
They didn't give up much at all. Two first round picks for moving from #12 to #3 for presumably a franchise QB, that's nothing. I don't even count the 3rd as part of the trade. The 3rd was a compensatory pick for losing a coach we would lost either way.

Also, those picks will most likely be late first anyways. This might have been as close as the 9ers were going to get to franchise QB in a while, so you shoot your shot.

Imagine giving up two 1st rounders, a 3rd, and a starting safety for a blitzing safety.
