They didn't give up much at all. Two first round picks for moving from #12 to #3 for presumably a franchise QB, that's nothing. I don't even count the 3rd as part of the trade. The 3rd was a compensatory pick for losing a coach we would lost either way.
Also, those picks will most likely be late first anyways. This might have been as close as the 9ers were going to get to franchise QB in a while, so you shoot your shot.
Imagine giving up two 1st rounders, a 3rd, and a starting safety for a blitzing safety.
Solid post! Damn Seagulls got plucked huh!? Lol
The problem with this logic is that you assume that whoever we get is a guaranteed star. What is the success rate on top 5 QB? Maybe 50% and that doesn't even guarantee someone better than JG. So, if everything works, you are right. A star is worth the extra picks. If he fails, we will be in draft purgatory for the next few years.
Well if #3 QB pick busts, thank god you still have a decent QB in Jimmy and another top ten pick in Rosen to pick up the slack.
I think when Solomon was picked, there was no Bosa, Ford, or Kinlaw and he was the sole guy to carry the load, and he couldn't. ShanaLynch has been doing good work on the drafts since 2017. Yeah #3 pick could be a QB bust, but hopefully he'll be a better backup QB than Mullens or BeatHard, I think if that's the case, it might still be a serviceable win, versus a total loss.
