There's your problem right there, you learn very little about a prospect from highlights.

If you're time strapped you can learn so much more from cut ups, but full games are best as replay is the closest thing we can get to All-22.

yeah but my point is, a lot of people who are complaining about the idea of Mac, haven't even watched the highlights

That could be the case.

The big problem for me though is that it would have been a huge reach just to take him #3, after you've traded what we have I don't see how you could even entertain it.

To be fair I think similar about Lance, and I'm much higher on him.

Kyle has personally known Fields for at least 4 years now according to the QB camp they run. I think that makes a lot of sense that Kyle knows who he is getting with Fields and is comfortable giving up what we did.

Yeah, that was an amazing find. That's why I think it would be Fields. Weird as it sounds, I'm still on the Mac Jones bandwagon too. Fields is the risky pick, Mac is the safer pick. Man I'm torn!

Any chance we take the OT at 3 and a QB to develop in the second?

You don't trade multiple firsts to move up for an OT.

Especially a guy who would end up playing right tackle

Agree, the only position you trade multiple *first round* picks for are either QBs or Edge Rushers, and all the draft nerds say there's no edge rusher worth that in the 2021 draft.

He'd still know just about everything about him due to his ties to Ohio State.

Don't really need all those draft picks when Kyle can pull out starting caliber players from the discount double check part-time employment board at your local grocery store.

I mean I've never seen a top of the line NFL ground game made up primarily of undrafted free agents.

When Lance balls out, you could say they also put their jobs on the line when they bypassed him for the safer, more conservative pick of Jones! I know 'potential' could be a dirty word, but Lance has the potential to be a superstar in the NFL. ... and just having Fields in your qb camp, which could help, doesn't necessarily mean they will draft him.
That's really a lot to give up. I can't believe they gave up that much. It's a big drop off after Trevor Lawrence. I think they are a little bit over rating these guys.

In any case we won't know until the end of 2022 when whomever we pick gets a chance to start a bunch of games.

ok?....lol
I feel like this poll isn't capturing the right info. If Wilson is there at #3, they're going to take him.

But assuming he's not, it's down to 1) Fields (~50%), 2) Lance (~30%), and 3) Jones (~20%).

The SF #3 picks turned out ok right?

I am not sold on Fields. He reminds me too much of Kaepernick - one read and run. Those types of QBs who run a lot do not generally last long enough for the investment you have to make in the position. Yes, he performed against good competition, however, he did not face the defensive complexities he will face in the NFL.

Lance is my preference of the two remaining after Wilson. I haven't seen a lot of him but he just seems to see the field better. Shanahan is going to take the one who is the better game manager of the two. After all, running his scheme is the key to success. I believe Lance will do that better than Fields.

Happy to hear you say that, dj... I also believe that Shan will pick the guy who he believes can run his offense best....and so...it just might be Jones. I prefer either Fields or Lance. I love Lance's ability to avoid the rush. The guy is amazing at getting away from it. He also has good footwork for such an inexperienced player. He is knocked for not being accurate but I don't really see that on the tape I've seen. In 2019, he did not have a single pick the entire season. I don't think that could happen if he were inaccurate.
That stated, he is very green and will take a lot of work to coach up but the same thing was stated about Mahomes, Allen, and Herbert when they came out. I don't know. It does seem like the Niners will go for Fields or Lance at number 3 because Jones could perhaps even been had at number 12. It certainly will be interesting to see who is finally their choice.

Cheers!
