Interesting comparisons. But I think Mac Jones compares more to Matt Ryan myself.

my heart wants Lance, but my brain has come to terms with Jones.

I'm more favoring Fields but I feel the same

Mac Jones is more like a poor man's Jimmy G....!

The second one is pretty funny. It's too bad that Mac didn't tear his knee up so that we wouldn't be at risk of drafting him.

Lawrence would be nice. But, in reality I have no Idea. I hope the 49ers have a good idea and I'll have to go with that. Maybe they take Penei Sewell at 3 and take a QB like Kellen Mond or Jamie Newman later in draft. Add in a Kyle Trask maybe all 3 QB. If they loose just 1 offensive linemen they may need all 3.

He is trying too hard. Having to go back to the previous year to find a poorly thrown ball by Mac? At least it was the right decision.... Just a bad pass. Also, Mac had like 335 yards and 4 Td passes in this game. This Int did cost them big though.

The run shows he is more athletic than people give him credit for. He threw his body on the line trying to get a first down. If Fields did this it would have been look at this tremendous athleticism and toughness. What a gamer putting his body on the line like that for the first down. Mac does it though and he is an idiot.

I can play this game too. Hey everyone watch Fields throw 3 Ints against Indiana. Looking like Jimmy G out there.

"

look at him get hammered on this run. Clearly, an injury waiting to happen same as Jimmy.

I am just trying to prove a point. Way many people try to prove they are right by showing one or two throws on Twitter for both the good and bad plays

I think you took that a bit personally. It's hilarious, nothing more, nothing less.

We are definitely in the over-analysis stage. Every QB, from Joe Montana and Tom Brady on down makes bad throws and a poor decision here and there. The question is can Scangarallo and Shanahan take what any of these QBs do well, maximize that, don't ask them to do what they don't do well, and just coach them in the weak areas so that they don't become an Achilles heel for the player. I think after the Dante Pettis debacle, Kyle is more keen on getting guys who are into football. Fields fits that to the tee (not to say the other guys don't). Pretty confident this is the pick. Whether Justin Fields is or isn't, I have no intention to listen to any sports media talking about who the 49ers will pick until the pick has actually been made.

Yeah that was very poor taste - wishing injury on a player. 😖😳

I agree with your point that Mac is way more athletic than most folks here give him credit for. I think for one reason, he didn't have to scramble much because of sound play design and superior talent. Secondly he had superior players at the receiving corps.

If he's chosen (and for the record I'm-- Fields >Mac>Lance) he'll be fine under the best NFL play designer in Kyle, top TE in Kittle, top RB corps, two very good RAC recievers in Deebo and Aiyuk. I'm pretty sure another WR is on the way via the 2021 draft and with Trent and Alex Mack, they just need another OLineman draft pick and coach up MgGlinchy and Mac will have a Quality OLine protecting him like his College OLine. *Any* of the three QBs will have a fantastic career under that scenario.

I've been guilty of this before, Mac is an average athlete at the QB position, just as he has an average to above average arm strength. He has tools to work with.

The issue is that his competition have immense tools, so we get guilty of analysis by comparison.

Grade them separately and then make a decision, and for me it's Fields by a long margin.

He'd be about as good as Jimmy here...it's not just about scrambling, it's extending plays and making throws off script. Last I checked the talent level in the NFL is WAY better. his velocity on throws isn't any better than Jimmy's IMO. Windows are tighter. His lack of athletic ability will show even more not less.

One of the most overblown talking points is Kyle "needs" a QB that can just run his offense, dude can get guys like Hoyer/Mullens to run his offense...we saw it, under structure it was an NFL level offense. The moment any of those dudes couldn't get past the first read or had to make a play, it was a over.

I don't want "just fine" when I'm spending 3 1sts on a guy. I want elite traits and the ability to be top 5 in the NFL. That's what you spend up for. You want a guy that's a system QB only, go draft Mills in the 2nd. Go develop Rosen who was damn near the same thing as Jones in college, just didn't get to play at Bama.

For me if you have avg athletic ability and a avg arm...it's not gonna be better in the NFL.

Also the whole Kyle just needs a QB that can run his offense, is such an overblown talking point in here/in the media. He's had that here, he had Hoyer/Mullens/JG running their offense and overall it wasn't s**t when in structure. The moment that first read was gone & play broke downs they couldn't make plays off script. Jimmy every once in a while could, that 2017 season was a lot of that. There's a couple throws in 2018/2019 that come to mind as well overall he just couldn't do it consistently though.

I'm with ya, it's fields and I would have a hard time with wilson over him as well. Lance is slightly behind them and about a mile down the road is Mac.

I'd rather have my picks back and draft Mills in the 2nd, if we're just looking for a system QB.

I'm with you, but we're definitely guilty of downplaying Mac's tools because they aren't at the level of the other QB's.
Team Fields in the building. Stop talking about Mac Jones, he isnt worthy of a top 3 pick in ANY draft. Have any of you watched Trey Lance in their championship game from 2019? Lance had 30 carries in that game which is scary lmao. To me, Fields is a way better and way more ready QB than him and should be drafted over Lance.
