Yeah I hear that. Phoenix makes good points about Carr and Couch as well. I guess knowing I was going to miss some guys I tried to throw a wide net.

For me it easily comes down to Leaf and Russle, looks like everyone else agrees with that.

He didn't go close to #3 but I thought about throwing Jim Drunkenmiller up there just to reopen old wounds

Jamarcus Russell. Not only was he bad, he didn't give a crap about getting better. Him being #1 overall factors in when deciding biggest bust.

All of this.

He's up there, I had his name misspelled
Whats the argument of Russell being a bigger bust then Leaf?

Leaf was definitely the worst of the 2. Both sucked off the field and had terrible attitude.

I forgot just how bad Leaf's stats were......

I recently saw a video on youtube about Jamarcus Russel. I think it was by Flemlo Raps. Apparently what isn't talked about(If im remembering correctly) is that his uncle who was like a father to him, passed away around the time he was drafted and that it really messed him up and he went into a depression Which probably explains his weight gain and attitude. Sucks because he really did look amazing and like the next great QB.
Mac Jones? 🤷

True intent of this thread 😆

Probably Leaf since statistically speaking he was worse than Russell.
The Jeff Tedford "System" QB failures, i.e. Harrington, Akili Smith and Carr were a contributing factor to 49ers choosing Alex Smith over Rodgers.

IMO...Tim Couch shouldn't be on this list. Nor Carr really. Both were drafted by expansion franchises with absolutely atrocious offensive lines that let their young QB's get decimated. Bruce Arians still says that Couch is the most talented QB that he's ever worked with. Neither of those guys had much of a chance at success.

Some names that should be on this list but aren't:

Rick Mirer-Talk about a disappointment, this guy was supposed to the next Montana. He even had strong vocal support from Bill Walsh.

Heath Shuler-Was out of the NFL by the time his rookie deal ended

Blake Bortles-Had one good season and then nothing. Always felt like he was a guy that didn't take quarterbacking seriously. Oozed tons of talent but lacked dedication.

Not outright busts but disappointments(at least thus far).

Sam Bradford
RG3
Marcus Mariota
Jameis Winston
Sam Darnold

Comeback Champ

Alex Smith

Alex wasn't a bust at all, just had bad luck for a few years to go along with a terrible team and terrible coaching. I firmly believe that had the script been flipped with Rodgers going first and Alex falling to the Packers, their careers would be flipped too.

We weren't going to end up with a franchise QB because we didn't have the team infrastructure in place to have a franchise QB.

We were getting there with Norv Turner. We'd have put the team in a better place if we had fired Nolan and hired Turner when he said he was going to interview for the Chargers job.

💯 Agree. And got paid and got fatter by the day!!!
For me, it's a toss up between Leaf and Russell, but went with Leaf.
