As of March 29, the day on which coach Kyle Shanahan and G.M. John Lynch addressed publicly the move from No. 12 to No. 3, Trey Lance was the PointsBet favorite at +130. Next came Justin Fields at +150 and Jones at +160.

Things have changed dramatically since then. Now, Jones is the -200 favorite, with Fields at +250 and Lance at +300."

Or Zach Wilson falls because he shouldn't be consensus #2 anyways.

You're almost 150% correct. You forgot about the extra 50% Wilson falls

LOL this was from Charlie Campbell, and it wasn't a leak or a report based on inside info. He based it on the tone of the voices when 49ers' people talked about QW. In other words, it was complete conjecture.
Frankly I'd be happy with any of these guys. I think Mac is the "path of least resistance" for Kyle. I'm not sure if he wants to expand his playbook instead he wants a QB that can make fast reads, process the offense fast, go thru quick reads and deliver the ball where it needs to go. Who knows what we do with Jimmy, but Mac is the most plug and play within the context of Kyle's offense. So the pick would make sense from that angle.

That said....I hope Kyle does a 180 degree spin and draft a kid that is able to sit for a year and has the skills to EXPAND Kyle's playbook in ways we haven't seen in a very long time. My heart says Trey Lance....my head says Mac.

A couple of additional thoughts about leaks.

Reason to not leak - it is expected that 49ers and Jets will run similar offenses since they hired our OC. That means we will tend to grade QB the same. So if 49ers are saying they are all in on Fields, for example, that might make Jets take a 2nd look and decide that they want to draft him instead. A leak can conceivably result in the 49ers missing out on the player they want most.

Reason to leak - if the 49ers truly want to select Mac Jones, they may want to leak it early to give fans and analysts time to warm up to Mac Jones. If they just waited till draft day and picked him, every draft analyst would be calling them an idiot. By leaking early, the pick won't be so shocking. Personally, though, I don't know that I would have leaked Mac Jones so early. If this is the strategy, it would have made more sense to leak this a week before the draft, not a month before.

Regardless of the words he used?

I disagree. Words are important, especially if you want to be able to understand context.

"I heard from a source" carries far more weight than "in my opinion".

As I said, if Schefter were to come out and say something like "according to sources..." or "the people I have spoke with say..." than I would give his statement more weight. However, he didn't say that, and in this instance, is giving an opinion.
I doubt they trade up that high for Mac Jones. Isn't it just like having Jimmy G again? A pocket passer who is decent but not overly dynamic in any way. His arm is not that strong. He is not that fast or a great athlete. On the plus side he throws a pretty accurate ball from the pocket. He reads the field well and makes good decisions. I don't see him as #3 pick worthy. But maybe they do. I don't know?

Cmon bro we wish, but Douglas and Saleh ain't stupid.

That's why the Jets are taking Fields

YOU've gots to wonder why the 49ers suddenly jumped all the way to #3, there has to be some TIP that happened between Imoteph and Shan Choker.. The Jets did not even want to entertain SF's call to ask about the 2nd overall pick..

it just tells me that NY loves Fields and does not want SF to get a chance... so Saleh rubbed his shinny head and that's a sign for the 49ers to MOVE UP MOVE UP !!!

Who do you prefer? I think its as simple as Kyle is comfortable with a few guys.

Well those exact words were never uttered so what context do you have that proves this was solely opinion based.
