Proves?

I can't prove it is an opinion anymore than you can prove that a source told him.

All we can do is look at we see before us.

Schefter said, "I believe that in the end they will pick Mac Jones at three", "It'll be Mac Jones"

He didn't say that is what he is hearing or that's what people are telling him.

Because Schefter has never had an issue saying "this is what I'm hearing...", or "the people I have spoke with tell me..." it would seem notable that he left those words out and chose to go with "I believe".

You're welcome to extrapolate what he is saying and believe that a source told him that. However, we will simply have to agree to disagree.

Fields learning from Cam or Dak would be interesting.

My guess is since they've paid Dak for the next three years Dallas wants to jump Cincinnati for either a tackle or Pitts.

New England definitely wants a qb and like the niners said, they like 3 QBs right now which means there are 4 QBs that New England are comfortable with. Doesn't necessarily have to be Fields.

Forgot they just parked a brinks truck at Daks. Your right they don't need. And only Fields or Lance will be left for NE. Going to be one of those 2.

You're tripping if you really think it's Fields and Lance leftover after pick 3. Mac Jones doesn't go before Fields period. Zack Wilson might not even go before Fields

edit: Fields is already better than Cam. No way Patriots would sit Fields over Newton. Cam Newton is trash

If you're so confident go make some money. Jones is the heavy betting favorite. That means that people who are actually willing to backup their opinions with money tend to believe he's gonna be the pick.

I think the ship has sailed on any other supposed info coming out being legit at this point. Word coming out of niners land is the pick is Mac. The only question is will it actually be, not whether or not that's the word.

He runs PFN and has been an insider for like 20+ yrs. he works with guys like Wingo and Albright on his site.

Kinda weird you don't know who he is...literally the only 49er reporter that is leaning towards Mac is MM and he's said it's an opinion... he has no sources. Every other guy has said they either don't think it's Mac or at the very least SF hasn't said s**t.

why does it have to be a smokescreen? They haven't said anything and don't have to. It's just people guessing and a bunch of media echo-chamber content.

Agree with this.

That being said Jones is a strong possibility at 3. And so is Fields.

I dont think anyone outside of Shanalynch have any idea who we are picking. And if any staff Kyle has asked their opinion on leaked anything and it is found out they are fired so no reason for them to say a damn thing.

Still a chance we go Fields here.

This is where I'm at. Kyle and Lynch put Jed through a test before agreeing to come to SF.

https://abcnews.go.com/Sports/john-lynch-demanded-secrecy-test-49ers-leak-info/story?id=45199037
"I made a big deal that this stayed quiet," Lynch said. "First of all, you know what I was doing? Part of the rumors are things fly out of that building. So I wanted to see could I trust this building, you know? And so that was part of my thinking."
-------------------------

So what we are implying here with, "Mac to the 49ers a done deal" is that this front office, that prioritizes being mum about things, allowed the biggest decision that they are about to make to be leaked out of headquarters?

I agree even with Bosa it was a question until draft day and the pick was in.

I mean for one he says "It'll be Mac Jones." Very definitive. Also, "I believe" can just as well mean he believes because he has a proven inside source that told him.

I doubt they trade up that high for Mac Jones. Isn't it just like having Jimmy G again? A pocket passer who is decent but not overly dynamic in any way. His arm is not that strong. He is not that fast or a great athlete. On the plus side he throws a pretty accurate ball from the pocket. He reads the field well and makes good decisions. I don't see him as #3 pick worthy. But maybe they do. I don't know?

I don't want a guy like Jones who has an average arm and is considered an average athlete. At number 3 you don't go for average!

Peyton manning, Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, Drew brees = average arm, average athlete

I prefer Fields

1. Lawerence
2. Fields
3. Wilson
4. Jones
5. Lance

I think Lance would be most surprising to me. I think I would be pleasantly surprised. I'll be pissed if it's Mac Jones even though I have him rated higher. I'd much rather see Wilson go to the Jets instead of "fall" to us. Only if the pick is Fields.

You should look into what Bill Polian says about Manning's arm during pre-draft workouts when he came out,. I wouldn't call someone who can stand flat footed and throw the ball 50 yards on a line average.
Almost all of the Mac Jones to the 9ers is a done deal talk is just a snowball effect from a few people mainly other team's front office people saying that Mac Jones to the 9ers is a done deal and everyone has picked up on that and it's gained more and more steam and now almost everyone is parroting it. And the feeling that Shanahan wants Mac Jones stems solely from the QBs he's worked with in the past and what they feel he wants at QB. So it all boils down to a bunce of people who aren't in any sort of loop making an educated guess and assuming what Shanahan wants.

The fact is nobody actually knows what the thinking is at the moment with the 9ers brain trust on who they are selecting. They could be zeroing in on Mac Jones or he could be an afterthought they are doing their due diligence on and the fierce debate is between Fields and Lance.

I tend to think if it's close they'll go with Fields or Lance over Jones. You've gotta go with the upside and picking Jones makes your margin of error really thin because you used the 3rd overall pick and gave up 2 1sts and a 3rd for a guy that a lot of people especially fans think he'll be just a quality starter at best so he better be really really good or you're not going to live that one down. If you take Fields or Lance and it's a bust it'll still hang over your head but it's easier to forgive striking out swinging for the fences than it is striking out trying to lay down a bunt.

Agreed. Early in his career, Peyton had pretty good foot speed (drop distance) and a very good arm. As his career progressed, his athletic ability waned, but he became one of/if not the best mental player ever.
Fields is the only guy we haven't really been linked to. Obviously we've heard Mac and a little of Lance but never fields.

That makes me believe he is the pick right now. It could change but I really believe Fields is the pick and next week's pro day will solidify.

I hope so too!

We do a good job at not leaking our pick and at least making it look like we may go in a different direction but there's only so much posturing you can do at 3. Thomas was the clear favorite, Bosa was the betting favorite too. People are saying Mac because that's what Shanny typically prefers. I hope that's wrong but it may be the case come draft day.
