A way of saying that the group has reached a consensus; agreement after debate.

I think it means they are getting high and watching film.
If the pick ends up being Jones, then I find it hard to believe that there weren't leaks from the FO.

In January, Mac Jones was predicted to be a late 1st / early 2nd pick. There was some talk about him possibly going to the Patriots, but absolutely nobody had him as a top 10 pick until we traded up. As soon as we traded up, Chris Simms, Matt Maiocco, and others that are well-connected to the 49ers started saying that they are almost certain that we're taking Jones.

Are we to believe that's all just a coincidence? Or that it was just a good guess based on Shanahan having a fetish for unathletic QBs that look like Kirk Cousins?

I hope the pick isn't Jones, because if it is it will say so much more about Shanahan and our FO than it does about the quality of any of the available QB prospects and it won't be anything positive.

Every year he picks his draft crush. I believe he said since #3 is already a QB, the draft crush will be the 2nd round pick.

If the pick ends up being Jones then I think it's just a case of people knowing what kind of QB Kyle likes, basing their prediction off of that, and being correct. I still wouldn't think it's because it got leaked.

well we are talking about drafting a guy with a DUI history. I am not so sure on the research.

To be fair that is good research to be doing. Asking the campus police whether it was an Aldon Smith DUI where he didn't even know what planet he was on or it was a DUI where he woke up after a night of partying and didn't know he was still drunk and thought he was just hungover or something.

When the Vatican council reaches agreement on choosing a new Pope, they release white smoke as a signal.
Now we got Rapoport backpedaling about Jones to SF... just taking us for a ride haha

Yes white smoke is a reference to a new pope being elected. My interpretation is he believes the team knows who they want at 3 but all these media pundits pushing their opinions don't actually know who it is.

Perhaps, and I'd agree if it was only coming from national media or talking heads, but when it's guys like Schefter and Simms and Maiocco, all of whom are either deeply connected to the 49ers, to Shanahan, or the league in general, then it's concerning. They don't sound like they're just guessing or projecting based on who Shanahan has traditionally picked, especially since everything Shanahan has said for the last year indicates that he's realized that he needs more a dynamic QB.

If it is in fact Jones then I think the leak was intentional and clear defiance from the FO at odds with Kyle. Seems pretty clear they've disagreed on many of Kyle's offensive reaches who by now should have his draft day keys to the facility revoked.

I just honestly don't buy that the team would invest 3 first rd picks + a 3rd on a player that the coach and FO are at odds over. It's one thing to reach at your spot in the 1st (McGlinchey), move up in the 2nd (Pettis), 3rd (Beathard), and 4th (Joe Williams) for guys who present 0 value at the pick but this would be next level. I just don't think you do that for a guy that didn't even have a draft grade going into a shortened weird COVID season. If anything I'd discount this year, not over-emphasize it.
