Have the 49ers leaked who they are drafting at #3 (i.e. Mac Jones)

I think that the 49ers are more than happy to let everyone in the NFL world (organizations, media, fans, etc.) believe whatever they will.

As one of the fans I am no different, but I can't wrap my brain around deliberately trading up to draft anyone at 3 who isn't a game changer.

Mac Jones just isn't a game changer, unless the game you want to change is Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch in their current roles with the 49ers.

Wilson will be gone at 2, the upside of both Fields and Lance is game changing for the 49ers.

So what we are implying here with, "Mac to the 49ers a done deal" is that this front office, that prioritizes being mum about things, allowed the biggest decision that they are about to make to be leaked out of headquarters?

There's no need to put up smokescreens unless they are looking to trade down and get some more capital. They have 3 choices at pick 3, it appears as though the guy they want is going to the Jets. If someone 4-10 thinks they can get their guy and trade with the Niners that's ok. I can't see teams trading with the Niners to draft Mac Jones at 3. Maybe the Niners thought they could get Zach when they made the move with the Fins. However, things changed quickly and the BYU QB kept rising. I would not be surprised if the Niners trade down a few pegs and still get Mac.

In case my earlier post was not clear: No, I don't think the 49ers will draft Mac Jones.

I dont believe it. If it happens and Mac doesn't become special in a couple of years, I will wish Kyle and John good luck with their new teams because they won't survive it. After that this team will go back to the coaching carousel and Niner fans will suffer with average to below average QB play for at least another 3-5 years while they continue the search for a difference maker at QB.

The 49ers haven't been creating the smokescreen. National media has gone with the notion that Kyle has a type and ran with it. Some are pot committed at this point

I posted this in the "4-way QB thread" but it speaks to your thought of SF not needing to put up a smokescreen. Let me know what you think, how feasible it is.

Here's my hypothesis on why we are seeing all this smoke about Mac. The Jets are about to implement the same offensive system as the 49ers and they also select before the 49ers. You might say, "who cares they are taking Wilson, what do they want with Fields?".

The 49ers do not want to show their interest in Fields because it could cause the Jets to re-consider. "Hell yeah, then we get ZWilson!". Here's the kicker, the 49ers prefer Fields.

I'm 110% opposed to it. But I absolutely believe it's what they are doing.

Maiocco says its a lock. Simms says its a lock. Schefter says its a lock. Many other people saying its him.

Way too much smoke. Yes, there are no leaks in the organization. But at this point, I'd give it a 90% likelihood. Also, I do not trust Shanahan's words.

"So, I do think there's more options coming into the league, but if you can't sit in that pocket and play the position, eventually it's not going to matter," Shanahan continued. "So, they both go hand in hand. To say that my prototypical guy is someone like Kirk Cousins, I mean, that's just, everyone knows my history with Kirk. ... There's a number of quarterbacks like that, but that's the only one I've been associated with because people thought I was trying to bring him here, which I was at the time. It's not because that's how you draw it up.

"If you're going to draw it up, you're going to draw the biggest, fastest, strongest and best quarterback in the pocket. There is absolutely nothing in this quote to suggest otherwise that he has changed his mind on his prototype. He just butters it up with a long winded paragraph to essentially say that "Elite QBs can be anything and anywhere".

And just because they were in on Deshaun Watson, doesn't mean anything for Fields or Lance. Kyle is the type of guy who would go for Watson now because hes actually developed into a great passer. But he wasn't interested in 2017. That just tells me that he is not interested in Quarterback development. He does not care to teach or develop the position. He is more interested in prospects that are ready to play right away.
