Have the 49ers leaked who they are drafting at #3 (i.e. Mac Jones)

So what we are implying here with, "Mac to the 49ers a done deal" is that this front office, that prioritizes being mum about things, allowed the biggest decision that they are about to make to be leaked out of headquarters?

100% this. I bought into the hype initially re MJ. I now firmly believe MJ will not be the pick. I think it's Fields. I can see Lance, though I would be surprised. This all assumes TL and ZW go one-two respectively.

But that is the issue. The 49ers are paying for filet mignon and supposedly ordering a cheese burger. If the 49ers had waited till draft day, and then traded up to #6 overall for Mac Jones spending an extra first and second round pick to get there, I wouldn't complain that much. But no one else is going to draft Mac Jones at #3 overall, so why are you spending so much draft capital to get that high? Kyle and Lynch aren't stupid, so I assume that is why they aren't drafting Mac.

Because after Plan A and Watson fell through, they HAD to make sure to get one of the top 5 QBs in the 1st round of this draft. Jimmy and Minshew would have been unacceptable.

They paid up to get into the top 3 to get one of the top 5 QBs. They talked to Atlanta and Cincy before trading with Miami but a deal wasn't made.

They take their guy at #3 and that guy easily could be Mac Jones. I prefer Fields but will be excited regardless. Shanahan might also think Jones is the filet mignon running his offense.

We have no idea. The 29th cannot get here fast enough.

why they going to Fields pro day on the 14th now then? If the pick is in and we all know who it is....there's no point.

Fields needs to ball out and impress heavily right in front of Shanahan's eyes - Jones' subpar pro day opens the door for Fields to change Kyle's mind if that is needed.

Obviously the film overall says all, but Fields has an opportunity here next week to catch Kyle's eye and make him say wow I cannot pass on this kid.

To play devil's advocate, it's an Ohio State Pro Day, not a Fields Pro Day.

they were never having a second pro day though....not until Kyle asked. Their only scheduled pro day was March 30th

I believe this is correct. Kyle asked Fields' agent if his client would throw again in front of them since Bama's second and final pro day was on same day.

Obviously, this is a big deal. Playing it for all its worth makes sense.

Nobody makes their decisions off of pro days. Its a chance for coaches to go and socialize a bit, get a look at players up close but its always going to come down to the games they've played in, unless you're the Browns and your owner takes drafting advice from a homeless guy.
