Ok, so I disagree with Atlanta not needing a QB - because their thinking has to be "when will we be drafting this high again to have a chance like this?". I also don't think that "Sam Darnold" would stop the Panthers from taking Fields, if he were to drop. Then there is the massive opportunity for a number of teams to still trade up ahead of us, if we did this.

But the point I REALLY have the most problem with is: 99% of 49ers fans and some 95% of non-Alabama fans think the 49ers would be crazy for trading up THIS high for Mac Jones. But in this scenario, Denver ALSO wants to trade up that high and fight us for him???

I agree with both of your points. The second one is particularly significant in that it points to the fact the reason the FO had to trade all the way up to #3 to have a shot at ANY of the three remaining after the Jags and Jets make their picks. At the time the trade was made, all the intervening teams that were even considering a QB were not willing to trade. Hence, Lynch moved early to make sure Denver or Carolina did not make a deal with Miami. Smart move by Lynch, and points out the fact the OP question is never going to happen because it would undo all the maneuvering that was done weeks ago.
