Mike Shanahan/Kyle Shanahan's offense is about the run game, and the playaction off that run game. Imagine having a QB that is a threat to run. Ultimately, the QB has to win from the pocket, but that is why Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson are such a pain in the ass to play against.

In all seriousness, I don't think it's going Mac Jones. I just don't know if it's going to be Trey Lance or Justin Fields or even Zach Wilson (0.000000000001% chance).

Still sticking with Lance. The conspiracy theory I have heard is the 49ers and Jets colluding where NYJ takes Fields and we get Wilson. But that seems a little out there to me. Like, really? If Saleh knew Shanahan loved Wilson, why wouldn't he just take him for himself? Makes no sense. The more plausible "conspiracy" is that the Niners leaked the Jones/Lance stuff to draw attention away from someone who isn't those two -- such as Wilson or Fields.

Just because Shanahan loves a QB doesn't mean Douglas, Saleh, and Lafleur love him.

Yes, I get that. What I meant to point out was, it seems like a major stretch unless they both communicated that they want completely different players. Shanahan himself said you don't really want the rest of the league knowing what you're doing. If the Jets had someone in mind that they wanted, and we said anything about wanting that same player, they would know for sure to take him. Would the Jets be forthcoming to the point where they would tell us who they're taking so we know what our options are?
No idea. At first I thought Fields. Then I thought Jones. Now, no idea.

My heart wants Fields, my brain thinks Jones.

So it's Lance.

Makes more sense than any of the pundits.
At the end of the day, I'll fully support whoever. I just want an elite QB before I want a mobile one. All of these guys have traits that could make them good in the NFL. We ultimately won't know until they get into some real games and are put to the test.

Agreed. I'm rooting for whoever they draft to be so good that the Niners have a franchise QB for the next decade.
It's all for Kyle Pitts so the 49ers can have the best duel TE threat in NFL history.

All seriousness ... Fields
It's Pitts and it makes sense. Many will be shocked but this was a good move
I'm starting to wonder if Zach Wilson unexpectedly falls. As incredibly talented as he is, I think it's a massive red flag that not only was he not a captain for BYU, no one on his team stood up for him while he was getting pummeled with cheap shots by Coastal Carolina. That's insane to me.

U had it right then fked it up
I have no idea! But if the Niners really tried to trade #3 and whatever else for Aaron Rogers, as the news reports say on the webzone, then this team and organization is in deep trouble!
