MadDog49er draft big board?

Fields winds up a little with his motion, this is probably the easiest mechanical flaw to fix.... me not worried

Hi, everyone!
I really miss being on the board this year. For the second year, I have been investing all of my spare time with my boys and their hockey development. They are both elite level players, and we are on the road a lot traveling across the country to play other teams. I will be in the road from Columbus to Chicago tonight during the draft coverage, including when the Niners pick, but will be following and dropping my thoughts from our hotel room throughout the week. I wish you all a great weekend. Have fun!

When I go all in on a typical year, my evals go 500 players or more and I don't feel comfortable without watching at least 7 games from the year before. I can say that I have been only able to completely hit one position alone this year with those goals, and that is QB (of course, Lance didn't quite hit that benchmark of games played).

My thoughts on number 3?
I think the Niners HAVE to select Fields. He is mobile, accurate, proven over numerous season, played against solid competition, and has a good arm. He is a tough kid. I am not afraid to criticize OSU players (I live in the Columbus area) who I don't believe are solid pro prospects (Damon Arnette, Billy Price, Devin Smith are a few of the many I gave lower grades than the "experts"). I think Fields is going to be really good in the NFL.

I have Fields as my number 2 QB in this class, after Lawrence. I have Wilson, Lance, and Jones as the 3-5 QBs.

If the Niners are swinging for the fences, they HAVE to pick Lance, who I believe has the highest ceiling of any of the QBs. He is just so damn raw, and is going to need at least two years to sit before he is ready to go. He is the biggest wildcard in this draft. Smart, huge arm, and the best running ability of any of the QB. Right now, he is a one-read and get the hell out here prospect, with accuracy issues. I am simply not the gambler, as a missed pick here will damage the team for a half-decade, and think Fields is the best choice for the team because the window for winning the Super Bowl is closing fast, and I don't think Lance will be ready to lift this team to that level until year three at the earliest.

The conservative route of Jones is NOT the correct selection. He might be the most QB ready to play right away, along with Lawrence. But....the upside is way too low. The other top tier QBs have a MUCH higher ceiling. His arm strength and mobility is the weakest of the group. He worked in a QB-friendly system with an NFL offensive line and NFL WRs everywhere against inferior competition. I just don't think he has the ability to carry his team to an elite level.

As for the second round and beyond, someone is going to slip out of the first round that has way too much value and will be a terrific option. Guys on my radar are: Elijah Moore (we don't need the position, but he is a helluva player and is probably a 1st rounder); Asante Samuel, Jr. (short but plays big); Zaven Collins (another low need, but long, and smooth...stud); and Azeez Ojulari (who is the best pure pass rusher in the draft, but might fall due to medicals).

My best overall player in the draft is Kyle Pitts, followed by Sewell, Lawrence, Chase and Fields.

I hope you all enjoy the weekend.

Cheers

When are the boys are going to be ready? The Sharks are going to have high draft picks for half a decade at least.

They are 10 and 9, so it will be awhile.

I have no delusions about either of them making the NHL. The chance is so microscopic. But....my little one is really, really special.

They have both played against the best teams in the US (my oldest played three games this year against the #1 ranked team in the US, the Chicago Mission), and the level of talent is insane.

Lance is too raw and his designation should be qb/rb/wr/lb

Jones is too shanahany.

I'm out i hate this draft.

The beauty of the draft is the uncertainty. It could be that Mac Jones, Kyle Trask and Kellen Mond become the three best QBs in the draft.

That is why GMs usually don't last very long in their job. The hit rate is so low.

Hang in there. Celebrate the hits, own up to the misses and drown out the noise.

And don't worry about giving us scrubs your draft boards. Take care of your kids and we look forward to your boards in the future.

Nice to hear from you! Good luck for the boys!

Mad Mad respect Mad Dog... you're a great dad and a 49ers forum falls far as secondary to your boys development! My first born is now 17, a senior and choosing colleges... time fly's by so enjoy these moments, your boys will never forget them

This.

Just had to pop into the forum to read MD's take on this year's class of QB's, SINCE WE HAVE THE THIRD PICK!!!

My feeling is that Kyle and John are in love with FIELDS and expect him to be there.

Stories I read tell Kyle/Mike Shanahan has been around Fields, studied him, since his high school days. As MD sums up he is ELITE and have a higher ceiling than the pocket passer QBs Kyle has schemed for. He can win now.

Lawrence is gone and Wilson may be below Fields on NINERS board.

Jones is a lesser talent and Lance is a real talent with upside but not ready for a few years. Pass on the last two.

Fields will take our offense to the next level. The YAC bros, Juice and Mostert will only get better with the threat of a mobile QB, accurate and with real arm talent to keep defenses honest and fear our vertical game.

Also, we're mostly gonna stay off IR and Kyle gonna unleash the a high scoring offense this league have yet to see. It will be worth the draft capital we given up, a rookie QB salary keeps our SB window open longer, we forget last years season faster than I can say ;

GO NINERS!!
MD
Thanks MD and good luck with your kids!

Yet still ahead of Mac Jones! Come on Shanny, listen to the Dog this time. He'd have had us taking Mahomes! In the Dog we trust!
MadDog, thank you for jumping in here and giving us your thoughts on the draft! My hats off to you on giving time to your boys and their hockey. I think it's safe to say everyone here appreciates your insights with these players. Thank you for what you do. I look forward to your thoughts after the picks when you have time.

This really takes me back. When I was their age I was traveling with my parents for hockey. Played goalie for 9 years. Unfortunately I started to lose interest once I was almost eligible for semi pro. To this day it's one thing I've always wondered what if. I have three great kids so I don't regret walking away from the sport but I definitely think about time to time where would I have ended up if I continued playing? I fell back in love with the sport when it was too late. Have fun with it bud. My son is an all-star in basketball. He's 10 and I coach the team. I love and cherish every minute of it. Good luck to your boys.
MadDog is the man!! Way to lead by example and being a boss for those boys! You know we support real men and fatherhood over here!

Good to hear from you MD, we miss ya man. Best of luck to your boys. I gotta ask though, can you give us a top 3 from every position. Or even like a top 20 big board. I know you didn't get to do your Normal due diligence, but I would love to see what you have in mind. Thanks as always
Miss these every year. Thanks MadDog
