Arguing about taking players too early is dodgy, it only takes one team to agree with yo¹ur assessment and he has gone. And there are always people who argue that we could have taken better players. I actually like the team's assessments of late.

Regarding Banks, I stick with my opinion. This team doesnt spend such a high pick on a guard for any other reason than that he should start. If not him then who, Compton?

It is early days but I think the job is his to win.
I wanted a guard in the 2nd. They took one but not the one I liked. My notre dame friend claims this dude is a beast. So I am optimistic considering same friend questioned the mcglinchey pick because he couldn't pass block.

Would have rathered kept both 4ths instead of Sermon. Don't mind the pick. He actually reminds me of Frank Gore.

Ambry Thomas was one of only 6 CBs I liked so ok with this pick as well.

Solid B for me
There are only so many Marcus Allen clones available in the history of the Draft.

There are not a ton of 6 foot backs that run upright with balance and vision.

Sermon might not work in the NFL, but you only get so many shots at guys like Sermon that makes him worth a gamble. He looks like a 3 down back that will follow his blockers and adds something as a blocker or a pass option.

It helps that he end every run to make his highlight reel. He dies hard.

At the end of the day you got a back who catches the ball with his hands ala ricky watters, has the 5 yard acceleration of Frank Gore, and the upright running style of Marcus Allen. The cherry on the top is he tries to finish runs like he Walter Payton...

He is not those guys, but you don't get many shots per decade at a guy who has that kind of blend.

I have a ton of love in my heart for that upright running style, it takes a special breed of RB to make it work. I tend to notice guys like that immediately (i ended up at line backer, but in my heart i was always a RB..well running back with a fumble problem)... Great pick in my opinion.
Extremely solid for me

Banks: We needed a starter at IOL. Not super athletic but he could get to the 2nd level and is a mauler. Also allowed 0 sacks and is athlethic enough where he would've been the starting LT if went back to ND that tells you a lot in his ability/potential. Should be a starter on day 1 (B+)

Sermon: This was definitely a luxury pick but we traded up for him so we obviously wanted him. He is athletic with good size. He is a 3 down back who can catch and pass block. My guess is he will be a rotational player this year and be the primary back next year with Mostert and Wilson both being FA (B-)

Thomas: This is my favorite pick of the draft. A Cb with really good size speed and athleticism. His RAS score ranks one of the highest in the class and on top of that he is pretty polished too. He isnt raw at all and is fundamentally sound. He just needs to build out his frame. (A-)
Looks like more of a power game with the picks. Maybe all the injuries influenced the direction of the roster

had the picks just been ambry and banks, I would have given it a B. Adding a quality pass protecting guard and an athletic are good, all while picking up an extra 4th.

Trading up for a running back negates all the value from a good trade back in the second. for a position that this league has shown it doesn't value, and this system has been able to develop with low round draft picks. There is likely a low round pick who would have been able to fill the rb role competently or could even be a stud. We now don't pick until the fifth and will likely miss out on significant value at more important positions. Horrible value.
I love all the players, and the positions selected, just not sure I would have prioritized them in that order. Each of those players were on my wish list, but not higher than players we narrowly missed out on like Asante Samuel, Benjamin St Juste, Kendrick Green
Aaron Banks should have no problem beating Brunskill for the RG job. Brunskill is a perfect swing OL. Banks is durable and rarely allows sacks, whih is what we've been looking to improve. He is like Trent Brown version of an OG.
Not a fan of Sermon because I like Khalil Herbert more and was no need to trade up. But as any other RB not named Joe Williams, he is going to play like an star. I was sure no RB was going to be picked after the Gallman signing.
Thomas was the best CB available and provides much needed depth.
I give it a B+ and just because of that trade up, if not it would be an A

RB has a significant impact on the game, and is the only player other than QB that touches the ball 20 times a game. I think the league is undervaluing RB in the draft, which gives the 49ers the opportunity to get great value by spending draft capital there. The ideal back for the 49er's run scheme is a big back (aka durable) that has the speed to get to the outside, and top end speed to ensure that they aren't caught from behind. Aka a one cut runner. You aren't going to get that in the later rounds of the draft. It sounds like Trey Sermon has some of the above which is why they picked him, but to truly have elite traits in those areas would be a first round RB. IMO the first round RB in this draft didn't have those qualities, so this wasn't the year to mortgage the bank trying to trade back up in the first, but I could easily see the 49ers spending a first on a RB in the future if they find one that has those traits.
I'm okay with spending a 4th on the 4th best RB in the draft. Im not okay with missing out on Asante Samuel
B+

Pretty dang solid draft to this point. Our team identity is a team that wants to bully you on both sides of the ball and force you to stop us from taking the ball to the house on every single play. This draft fits that identity at every spot down to the qb and all picks addressed areas of need in a reasonable order. This front office will never win the "value" award. They obviously don't value that way of approaching the draft. This will always frustrate a lot of fans.

Or maybe you have hater goggles on?

When you have a strong roster as we have you arent going to take a bundle of year one starters. Lance will start when he isxready,Banks will probably start pretty much straight away. Sermon will either start or contribute early.

What were you expecting?

Correct. I'm not hating im just being a realist. They traded back in the second when there was a lot of talent on the board, including samuel. They got a guard they probably could have got in the 4th They traded back for a fourth which they used with another 4th to get a rb they could have gotten in the 4th. Then they get a project cb.

With that said I won't know for 4 years, and the rest of the west sucks too.

No surprise here. Your negative takes are a regular thing. I'm not hating, I'm just being a realist.
