Tyler Linderbaum-C-Iowa

Looking ahead to 2022, this is one of my top targets for the 49ers depending on what happens with Garoppolo and the trade compensation that they get back. Linderbaum is a converted DL that is about as perfect of a fit for a zone blocking scheme as you could hope for. Like other Iowa linemen, he's been very well coached and looks to he an instant starter as a rookie. He could have come out for this draft but chose to stay in school a year longer. As a former high level wrestler he has that grappler mentality, is both a high level pass and run blocker and for a smaller lineman he's an absolute load to handle, just a naturally strong dude that understands how to win the leverage battle. He looks to be a mid to late 1st rounder for next year.

How big is he?
Very solid O linemen name

Pushing 300lbs. He's got some Jason Kelce to his game
Really wanted him to come out this yr...Dane burglar has him as his top center so far.

keep in eye on Noah Johnson of Kansas State too

Looks really good. You can always trust Iowa for linemen and tight ends.
Perfect replacement for Mack. How long is Mack under contract?

Would be great with our first pick... 64th pick

3 years, but they aren't spending a first on sn O-line man to sit. It would be one thing if he starts at guard then moves to center but no 1st round O-lineman is going to sit. With that said, I hope Jimmy balls out and we can snag a first, at minimum, for him.

Its a three year deal that allows the 49ers to get out of it pretty clean after one season. Mack is going to turn 36 during the season and while some linemen have played decently into their late 30s, its definitely more the exception than the rule. If they can get one good year out of Mack and then move on to a top prospect like Linderbaum, that'd be a very ideal outcome.

True. Would be a smooth transition. I'm thinking next year, assuming no crazy drop offs, C, CB, maybe edge are the top needs.
IOL — C Tyler Linderbaum (Junior, Iowa)

The Hawkeyes' yards-per-carry average jumped from 3.9 to 4.6 in part because of Linderbaum's efficiency in the zone-based scheme. Few centers can execute a reach block on a three-technique defensive tackle quite like Linderbaum (6-3, 290) and then have the power to bury the defender into a linebacker. A second-team All-American in 2020, Linderbaum began his career at defensive tackle before shifting to center in 2019 bowl prep.

I want to sell the farm for Burks, but if not, I'm all in on Linderbaum
Linderbaum?? More like Linderbust amirite??

In all seriousness I would love to get this kid next season. I wonder what Kyle's preference at center is. This kid seems to have all the athleticism you want but how is he in pass protection?

I think he's about as complete as a center as you're going to find with still a lot more to improve considering he's only been playing OL for a few years. PFF had him as a Top 3 run and pass blocker in the nation. The Iowa run game made a huge improvement once he stepped in at center and he's allowed pressures on less than 1% of his total snaps.
