2022 EDGE class

Yeah I think it will be BPA. I feel like I read somewhere that drafting an edge after the 2nd statically hasn't equaled much success in finding a stud. I was hoping SF would have upgraded the interior via FA but that clearly hasn't happened. Wouldn't mind some OL help for Lance.

I think all teams say BPA but rarely stick to it. I think you are spot on. We've done enough in the offseason that I truly think we are in a BPA position. They could go so many directions. I'm actually cool with that because there will be very good players at 61. Funny thinking all the what if possibilities for all the players I like that could drop. This draft will be fun from that perspective.
I thought Adam Anderson wasn't allowed to participate at Georgia's proday because of his legal issues, but now I'm reading that he did? Anyone know? Would instantly be the twitchiest/fastest/bendiest edge in the class, and if he did participate, could be a sign that his legal issues are coming to a close. That said, I don't know if I gamble on a player with his dodgy off-field issues combined with his small size on the field.

Yes. We have great depth and even if you view Hyder as a starter, it's only a one year deal. We still need the speed guy. In 2023, I think the only edge guy under contract is Nick Bosa.

We still need that high ceiling guy to go with Bosa who we will have under contract on a cheap deal for the next 4 to 5 years. Hyder and Willis is not going to stop Bosa from getting triple teamed on a consistant basis. And they also aren't the ones who are going to take advantage of the attention Bosa is getting. Need someone who Bosa can help turn into an elite pass rusher. Hyder and Willis are just good depth pieces.

Jim Nagy is a good ass dude, really tries to help all the prospects he can, hes made the Senior Bowl a must watch, I've been a self proclaimed draft nerd since the early 2000's and I didn't revere the Senior Bowl until the last 5 years or so, and Nagy has only made it better. Props to him!

Agree with this as someone who's been a draft nerd as well. Absolutely love the Senior Bowl under Nagy

i dont think hes a system fit
I see people asking for a speed rusher, but with the increasing number of athletic QBs in the NFL, it's more imperative than ever for the DL to rush as a group and stay within their lanes to box in the QB, especially in the wide 9 with the bubbles in the alignment and the extra space between the players. The 49ers do a great job of this, and that's because it's something Kocurek constantly harps on. They suffocated Dak Prescott in the playoffs by forcing him to play within a tiny pocket. I think this is why they really liked a guy like Ebukam who is athletic as hell and can chase in space but is specifically a power rusher and plays through contact.

What the Niners really need is another edge player that's good(obviously), but preferably one that is strong, violent, and most importantly, is able to win through contact to minimize creating space for the QB to escape through. Athleticism > Speed rusher. Having speed is great, but if that's all they've got, it becomes feast or famine now with the way the league is going. They either 1) get home or 2) give the QB a giant escape lane in the B gap. Remember, the wide 9 more than any other scheme is prone to athletic QBs exploiting space and creating more spaces only exacerbates the issue.

Find me an athletic edge rusher that can win in a phone booth. Someone explosive, powerful, and with violent hands that can win through contact, can consistently get off a block, and help pincer the QB.

No QB in the league exploits speed rushes more than Mahomes. When Bosa went to speed in the SB, he killed us.
