Low risk, high reward. re-signing Verret wasn't the problem this year, It was not having a backup plan. Gilmore and Verrett as our top two corners and Eman waiting in the wings if one of the two gets hurt. Then you can still develop both Thomas and Lenoir without the pressure of having to play them before they are ready.

How many times do you think the Niners should sign Verrett and then wait for him to get hurt? So far, they made that mistake twice. Is the third time the charm? Sorry, but that ship has sailed. Time to draft a younger, cheaper option that will have to develop during the four years the Niners have them under contract.

I would be ok with them giving Verrett an incentive laden contract, but minimal guaranteed money.
They are going to bring in a vet and a rookie to go with what we have, all that Jimmy money on a CB upgrade and some oline probably to help out Trey
Watched Jarrett Patterson C pretty closely today in ND's meltdown loss to OSU. It wasn't his fault. Is he a scheme fit for us? Yeah I know, another ND OL, but dude looked good to me.

I did the same, actually reminded me a bit of Alex Mack. He seemed solid but could be more aware, he could switch to help faster. Seemed to stand around too much would be my negative.

as long as we have the Brick AFTER Brick Brothers, we will continue to giver AA, Ward, Tartt, Johnson and Varrett the chance to be a 49er for life !!
Is this Covey kid from Utah draft eligible? He's electric and we need a kick returner

I noticed that too. But when he engaged, he didn't get pushed around for sure. Is he a zone blocking scheme fit for us?

Eligible but I believe is yet to declare (and I'd be surprised if he does)

I take that back, he did declare. The kids electric and he was pulling away from OSU defenders who you know are elite athletes on his kick return touchdown. Not sure where he gets drafted, at 5 ft 8 listed height and middling production will he have a roll at wide receiver in the NFL or be drafted purely as a kick return specialist?

FaninPA, thats what I was thinking immediately too lol

Having Wes Welker as his coach and the success slot WR's are having the league he'd be another great magical 5th or 6th round pick, draft season is almost here for me so I have alot of research to do if we don't make the playoffs

I guess the good news is they are better at drafting day 2 and 3. Than they are at day 1.

The day 1 whiffs are overstated. The only truly bad one was 2017. As much as we dislike McGlinchey, he's a starter in this league. It doesn't justify being a top-10 pick free because you expect far more, but he is a starter. Aiyuk has come on. Kinlaw we can't give a grade on yet.
overall, I agree.

However, these two first round whiffs set us back significantly given what we could have drafted instead.

It absolutely did. But I look at it this way, the best pick would've been Watson. Mahommes was in nobody's top 3. I'm over it. Constantly thinking about what could've been will drive you crazy. I also think the success of Mahommes in particular made Kyle change what he wanted in a QB.

It was probably a combination of that as well as Josh Allen torching us both through the air and on the ground in the game versus the Bills last year.
