Yes. He's one of those smaller shifty guys that can house it just by making a couple guys miss.

Calvin Austin starting Rd3 would be a great return man/gadget guy early… and Cole Beasley heir apparent over time. pic.twitter.com/VGx973he5u

Exhibit A on why @MemphisFB WR Calvin Austin III was big winner last week in Mobile. Never saw him run NFL slot routes in college and showing off this type of separation quickness erases any doubt scouts might've had about his route running ability. 1/3#TheDraftStartsInMOBILE™️ pic.twitter.com/ok6S4VkPNL

It's going to be hard to jam @CalvinAustinIII with this kind of suddenness. 😳 2/3#TheDraftStartsInMOBILE™️ pic.twitter.com/L8kyN7Hj3w
Good luck covering Memphis WR Calvin Austin on inside verticals. Look at him eat that cushion. @CalvinAustinIII had by far fastest GPS max acceleration (5.86) per @ZebraTechnology of any offensive prospect at last week's @seniorbowl. 💨💨💨 3/3#TheDraftStartsInMOBILE™️ pic.twitter.com/KlqNcD0Ua5

The start-stop ability from Calvin Austin is 🔥🔥He'll get open due to it in the short & intermediate areas of the field. Has the track speed to win deep down the field as well. pic.twitter.com/pZAACvnsQP

Having someone that can quickly get open like Austin would be great when facing teams like the Rams with aggressive pass rushes. If Lance knows that he can always look to Austin or Kittle if he has to dump the ball off quickly, that is huge for a young QB's confidence.
Guys like Austin are always great in theory. But these speed guys don't always pan out. For every tyreek hill there is a john Ross. If Kyle drafts him ill be excited cause for the most part Kyle has nailed receiver position.

Austin is far more than a speed guy. Austin can use his quickness to beat DB's right off the line. He has the quickness and agility to win in the short to intermediate area and the speed to house it if he catches a defense slipping.

Undersized but quite willing.
