2022 Right Tackle Prospects

I'm hoping they target CB with their top draft pick, but RT should be the next priority.

The Niners are on the hook for MM next year ($10.8M caphit). If Jaylon Moore isn't the answer at RT, they need to find a long term answer.

Depending if they get an extra 2nd for Jimmy, or if they use a 2nd to 4th rounder, here are a couple of intriguing mid rounders:

Jaxson Kirkland - Washinton
Rasheed Walker - Penn State
Abraham Lucas - Washington State
Braxton Jones - Southern Utah
Tyler Vrabel - Boston College
I think Abraham Lucas is being underappreciated, or at least, under represented. I'd be very surprised, tho, if we draft a RT with any intention of them competing for the starting job.

If MM is healthy, he will start.

But my post was about finding a long term answer at RT. If they can find a rookie who is ready to beat out a vet, that would be great.

I'm fully in agreement that the RT of the future is not currently on the roster; I just don't think the team will invest any resources of significance into the position until 2023. They will give Jaylon Moore the opportunity to develop into a player worthy of his high draft selection and MM has a rediculous cap hit relative to his production. I wouldn't be surprised (or happy) if they bring back Compton on a cheap one year deal as the contingency plan again.

To answer your question tho, and not be a total stinker, I think Daniel Faalele has a chance to be special with his size - it's not just his height and weight, but his legs are thick, arms are long, hands are huge. He has room to clean things up, and I think he can struggle with lateral mobility vs speed rushers, but he's a BIG BODY to get around once he learns to better move his feet, and run heavy teams like the niners would be very happy with him IMO.

I haven't watched Tyler Smith out of Tulsa, but he seems to be draft Twitter's current developmental RT darling because of his strength, athleticism, and "nastiness" and I've seen very knowledgeable offensive line people praising his upside

Rasheed Walker or Cade Mays in the 4th would be great, if this team doesn't think a battle between Moore, Mckavitz, and the vet Compton is good enough
Just saw Blake Freeland is returning to BYU. Target for next year.

I also don't think we address the RT this draft, we have to get a legit OC prospect to groom, its crucial for this offense. 23' draft will def be where we take a tackle if Jaylon Moore cant take the starting reps from MM, Compton has been great but he's getting up there in age.
I like Kirkland a lot, even if he did have a down year. He's got the necessary movement skills for this offense although I think he'll go too early for the 49ers.

I'm inclined to agree with this though I think they should at least invest a later pick at the position.

I go back and forth between Korkland and Walker as my preference.

Your likely right, but the Niners FO has really gotten lucky that Compton has been playing so well. There is a decent chance MM does not recover fully. I guess they could go into next year with cheap veteran FA, but it would be nice to have a prospect who could comptere for the job, or at worst, develop into a starter.

From PFF:
10. KELLEN DIESCH, ARIZONA STATE
BIG BOARD RANK: 66
Diesch was one of the highest-graded Power Five tackles in the country this past season and really never got taken advantage of in pass protection. He allowed multiple pressures only once this season and allowed all of seven all year long.

His writeup from the East/West Shrine Game:
KELLEN DIESCH, ARIZONA STATE
2021 Overall Grade: 87.2

2021 Snaps: 823

Diesch came in as the top player on PFF's draft board and did nothing on the field to change that Saturday. He comfortably won all his reps in pass protection during one-on-ones and showed why he only allowed eight pressures in all of 2021.

Still, Diesch decidedly lost the weigh-in. Standing 6-foot-7, he checked in at 299 pounds with only 32 1/2-inch arms — both of which are below thresholds that many NFL teams have for a tackle. He has a unique frame with skinny shoulders for an offensive lineman. It will be interesting to see how his game translates the rest of the week and into the NFL.

He reminds me a lot of Brunskill at tackle. He's definitely a better pass protector than run blocker and length is a concern that will knock him down somewhat. He's a unique lineman that only really fits well in a zone-blocking scheme at the next level.

The other guy to look at from ASU is Dohnovan West who projects to center in the NFL but played both center and guard in college. West if nothing else has the makings of a solid NFL backup along the interior.
Another guy that has yet to be mentioned is Max Mitchell out of Louisiana, Elijah Mitchell's former teammate. Has all the movement skills that you want for this scheme and comes with a lot of upside for the NFL level. Can play either tackle spot but is better suited overall for the right side.
