2023 Draft Prospect Watch List and Discussion

Man, I've listened to a number of pods with simulations and it sounds like the smart position targets would be S, T and CB early (3rd) and TE and ER later...plus PK (5th).

As to the OL I like, I'm still filling through all of the breakdowns but there seems to be several fits such as Freeman, Saldiveri, Wanya, McClendon, etc. who could fall to us at 99.

Gotcha.

RT and Edge are the only two positions I can justify trading up for. Need to keep the 2024 First and Second round picks off limits. I know they will recoup some comp picks in 2024 as well so maybe can part with their 3rd in 2024 to move up this season. Lance could be dealt for picks in 24 or 25 this season if he falls to 3rd on depth chart.

Really good and deep RB class imo, I doubt Kyle will be able to hold off from taking a RB. I'm ok if we do as long as it's with one of our 7th rounders, just hope we don't use one of our 3-5th rd picks on one. If we do that means we feel like TDP is a bust and that's another wasted 3rd rounder on RB 🤦🏻‍♂️. I'm sure we add one or 2 as UDFA's as well.

I feel like Isreal Abanikanda is going to be a 9er. Whether that's the last pick of the 3rd or super trade up from the 5ths to early 4th. I just feel it.

He and Kei'trel Clark will be 9ers

Only 2 RBs I'd be ok with before round 7 are Isreal Abanikanda or Kendre Miller.
I'd be shocked if Abanikanda doesn't end up 49er.

Yeah I watched the highlights of IA and it was pretty impressive…then got a little more into it and boy he doesn't really possess that contact balance or yards after contact that you want in a RB. Zero in the passing game as well.

love the one cut him run speed, especially at his size. I wouldn't hate him in SF. I would hate to burn another 3rd DB. Let alone for a 2 down back.

someone that caught my eye when watching Oklahoma OTs was Eric Gray. His cuts are filthy. He can catch the ball as well. No crazy speed or anything but as a later day 3 pick I think there's good value there.
I'm with you on not burning another 3rd on a RB, but given their track record it seems as inevitable as death & taxes.

Maybe since we have an elite RB on the roster…they might focus on another position early?

Lol who you kidding
I just dont see a chance that the Niners use one of their 3rd rd picks on a RB when that is a position of strength. If they dont trade up and do use their 3 picks I believe they will be for positions that a player can come in and provide immediate playing time either as a quality backup. In my opinion, that will be OT, S, and TE. However, wouldnt be shocked to see Edge or CB either. I just think they would be better suited taking a RB and QB in the 7th rd or as an UDFA.

I think it's only a strength if they all stay healthy. CMC is always knicked up. Elijah can't stay off the training table. They didn't seem to trust Mason. So to me, I can easily see them viewing it as needing a legit reliable #2. Not to mention we can cut/trade CMC at anytime without any cap ramifications(as of right now). 12 million for a RB may not have been in the plans.

Who's not making the roster? Mitchell/CMC are locks. Then you have TDP and Mason plus another 3rd rd RB?

They aren't gonna carry more than 3 RBs and juice. So basically we're gonna cut a 3rd rd RB from last yr or this yr? Just adding to more bad picks in the 3rd. you'd think they learn at some point.

There is no way a team that is a legit SB contender is going to trade or cut CMC. That is silly talk given the fact that they have 2 QBs on rookie deals and can easily afford him. If he wasnt on the roster I would agree that they might take another RB like they did last year but no way now. Too many other positions where they need help

Ii can easily see TDP let go and/or even Elijah getting moved. They moved on from Mostert due to injuries Elijah even worse than him in that department

Of course I'm not talking this year.

Well we will disagree about moving Mitchell. I mean tossing TDP after a season seems on brand for a 3rd pick/player on this roster.

I just don't see that as smart at all..especially when you have so many later picks and a ton of players that can play.

Bummer about Michael Jefferson, his whole life's worth of work and a few weeks before it pays off he gets in a bad crash.

Elijah as a 6th round pick is making pennies. You are not moving on from him. Because of the injury history, you probably can play on the 4th year of his deal without having an extension worked out. Guy has 1500 yard potential. I don't care how hurt he is, you don't move on from a guy that good that makes that little. Mostert was injury prone, held out, and wanted more than a prove it dealt. It made sense to move on from him.
